Re: Incredulous Justifications for FGM?
Hyper the article explained it very clearly and comprehensively. I get where he's coming from. At the end of the day, it should be a medical choice and a woman/young girl should be given the freedom to reach the decision on her own.
Re: Incredulous Justifications for FGM?
Hyperactive,
From what I hear the major health repurcussions and difficulty comes from the Fircooniya one. The one that people say is 'Sunnah' may affect the girl's sex drive but it doesn't affect them when it comes to stuff like child birth, menstrual cycle, pain during sex, etc. The tradegy here is the one the Somalis practice is the absolute worst one possible (Fircooniya) and deen wise, it is following the way of Pharoa mushrikiin.

People might call it that but that is not sunnah. That is not what the allegedly weak haddith says to do.Murax wrote:The one that people say is 'Sunnah' may affect the girl's sex drive

Where did you get this nonsense that the Sunni way of female circumcision effects the Sex Drive .Murax wrote:Hyperactive,

Insomniac-the Sunni way is just making a very slight cut at the tip of the clitoris , its save and healthy .

I believe there are 3 main types -there are other variations. From a prick (like testing for blood sugar) to fircoon, which basically requires the removal of the clitoris and labia, and then sewing the whole thing up.

murax, thank you, you and jasmine answer my question. i know the foqaha point of view but never knew , waha la goynayo to begin with. lol. and the thing is like fah's article, every one trying to explain their own way that makes sense to them and not look like so ugly to the modern culture.Murax wrote:Hyperactive,

here we dont know and isnt even an issue. even in official saudi majlis, they posted , basically asking public not ask in public and is totally up to parent and should be private issue! every way you look at it is just uncomfortable to them.
but we are in an age, we ask sheikhs, which leg i can put first in washroom!
is illegal in qatar. if was something so important as muslims, wouldnot ban it, not only in qatar, also kuwait, bahran. but thing is you have no control in rural areas.
right now my mom tells me, there are somali families take their kids to saudi arabia in rural places to be done by sudanis or egyptian ladies.

Experience with women =/= experience with different types of FGM. That shit is messed up.ElfRuler0 wrote:You might have more things in common with sally than you think. All talk and zero experience when it comes to the opposite gender.

Re: Incredulous Justifications for FGM?
is sunnah bro, in all madhabs except shafi'i. what you quote, is what we call in fiqh, mustahab. which is less important than sunnah.
Re: Incredulous Justifications for FGM?
Jasmine,
Fair enough, I didn't know. I guess the point I was making pretty much is the one Somalis have been practicing makes the alledged 'Sunnah' one look like childs play.
Hargassay,
Well, the clitoris and the friction that comes When a Guy is inside Her, is what provides the sexual pleasure for the girl right? Well if that is nonexistient or reduced, doesn't that mean less pleasure?
Hyperactive,
Yea, I can tell its something uncomfortable to talk about. This one Somali Sh from Nairobi came to the states and was asked. When the question was being asked to Him, His face changed and he seemed so uncomfortable.

Re: Incredulous Justifications for FGM?
I read a book about FGM written by a Somali woman, Raaqiya Xaaji Ducaale called 'Sisters in affliction' back in the 90's and ever since the mere thought of female circumcision horrifies me.
It wasn't long ago that I was talking to my brother & my sister-in-law, who have 3 young daughters, to never think about touching them & they assured me they wont. I hope they wont & if I ever decide to have children and I have daughters I would rather die than have them circumcised. F culture!
