can you say mahadsanid to your siblings?
The first thing I noticed when I re-united with my older brother and sister 13 years ago was my brother getting angery at me when ever I said to him waa mahadsantahey aboowgeey
He often gives me his expensive things whenever he gets new ones so I'm like don't open your mouth
Just take them
I thought there was some cultural gap. Its normal to say in arabic shukran to your parents and siblings so is it only for the strangers in somali?

Brother Sahal, that culture of Don't Thank Me Because We're Family is common trait between close tight loving family as yours, but some mannered individuals like you and me who prefer to show gratitude in words by saying ''THANK YOU" is a very rare sight but dearly loved by Allah.
So brother Sahal Continue to be grateful by saying thank you, as Rasulullah (SAW) said : "He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah". ( Ahmad, Tirmidhi)
Nb; if Maybe mahadsanid sound weird, than just say to him thank you or shukran!

i guess we dont have these slighter words.

Mashkour is slighter than shokran kinda of thanx but I think in egypt they use it for the strangers like mashkourin or mashkour ganabak.hyperactive wrote:of course we have it, even me knows. ko abal haya, Allah ko daayo, Allah ko ziyadiyo...etc. honest i use mashkoor my self wit my family merci, cause my siblings go to french private school. they use more french words than arabic.
Its big normal if you say in arabic shokran yaa mama/omy yaa 7abibty, shukhran yaa akhoya...
As for your somali words I never heard them except in docaa.
Mercy mahdouma katir, I like it even in some arab communities they use it for being ungreatful like if you reward me with a bad thing after I was good for you I would say mercy. Its not too much.

No, I just hug them. Being overly affectionate with them either annoys them or makes them unexpectedly happy, so it works for me either way. lol
