Food stamp cuts kick in, affecting about 47 million

Post by Arabman »

ImageNajuah Mudahy gets ready for one of her two jobs as her daughter, Ausara, sleeps. Mudahy says she runs out of money to feed Ausara before the end of each month
"The impoverished are forced to eat junk if we want to eat," said 32-year-old Tabitha, a mother of a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old staying at a Culver City shelter, who asked that her last name not be used because she said she was embarrassed. "It's going to be difficult, as it already has been."
The cut was triggered by the expiration of stimulus spending Congress approved in the depths of the Great Recession.
About 14% of Americans are on food stamps.
There are seven million Americans for whom food stamps is the only source of income, according to Kevin Concannon, undersecretary for food, nutrition and consumer services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"It would be like asking someone running a marathon with a 100-pound pack on their back to take on another couple hundred pounds," he said. "They don't have the capacity to do this."
Officials in other big states are also alarmed.

Bad times are ahead, I guess.

On a side note, I was surprised to know that the Somali word "raashin" which means food is the English word Rationing, Food Ration, Somalised.

Man, I am sorry if you didn't get your food stamp this month brother. Indeed, America is a country where anything is possible. Walaahi it is one of the least desirable places on earth I would want to live.

There is peace in Somalia now, so them Somalians on food stamps should go back home. They can become farmers in Somalia and don't need to depend on handouts.

i dont understand, why young, health person would be in food stamps? i am talking about somalis there! hamalinimo ma lawayey?

it's reminds me this somali young lady, my aunt asked her to be nanny to her young child and also said, i will pay you 150 $ ! you do nothing else just feed my kid clean him and watch them. that money even not salary of an officer. she refused and said, maya houno, wa la e aayaya, djibouti ban ka so shaqeysanaya on qofna ika aqoon!

wa hada qofki dawarsaneysay, iney buska ka bihiso! some somalis rather iney dawarsadan than iney shaqeystan.

Many in Somalia depend on remittance, so who is gonna feed those who go back? Are you serious to suggest farming for those who grew up in the West?
