Hyper,

Thanks, but I have been back in the States since July. The storm is centered on Bohol and Samar. Our house is on southwestern Luzon and will only catch an edge. We were there for a somewhat smaller typhoon in June. The water comes down in bathtubs and swimming pools. The wind tears the leaves from the trees. The folks in Bohol just suffered a big earthquake that flattened whole towns and now have nowhere to seek shelter. They deserve your concern far more than me.

Update on the storm:

Most of the regular relief organizations have a political/religious component. I would have preferred a local mosque, but was unable to find one, although I know there is a Muslim community on Samar. The Red Crescent/Red Cross organization seems to be the best of those I can find. God bless!

Folks,

100 confirmed dead in the storm, with an expectation that this number will rise. Much of the infrastructure on Bohol and Samar have been wiped out. Most of the bridges are gone and the water supplies contaminated.

The storm passed our house yesterday. No structural damage but the vegetable garden got wiped out again. Lots of very heavy rain.

There's a smaller, but similar, storm expected to drop 4-8 inches of rain in Somalia:

 Why was it so late to report the number of deaths???????? I mean, after a natural disaster, the icing on the cake is usually--how many died? :stylin:

 This is the largest natural disaster known to have struck the Philippines. 10,000 estimated dead just in the city of Tacloban, on Leyte. Six islands were in the central path of the storm. There is no communication with large areas.
