O3b, Somtel to boost connectivity in Somaliland

O3b Networks announced an agreement to provide high-speed, low-latency capacity to Somtel, in Somaliland. Somtel has contracted substantial O3b trunk capacity in Somaliland ahead of the formal launch of the O3b satellite service in 2014. The O3bTrunk products offer lower delay than long haul fibre with a round-trip latency of less than 150 milliseconds, the company claims. The O3b satellite network will deliver global broadband connectivity for emerging and insufficiently connected markets in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific region.
Somtel GSM FZCO is Telecommunication Company currently operating in Somaliland. Somtel GSM FZCO is registered in British Virgin Islands and having office branches in Sharjah Airpofrt Free Zone, Sharjah, U.A.E.. The company Headquarters is Hargeisa, Somaliland.The present owners of Somtel are Dahabshil Group which owns Dahabshiil Money Remittance and DBI Bank. Dahabshil Group is the major share holder of the company owning more than 80% of the company. Other investors include Albashair Telecom who is also major shareholder in MTN operations in the Middle East.

i dont trust that 150 milliseconds latency, i think they are pulling your leg.
sattelite gives great speeds but latency is a problem..
but i think it should be fine for somaliland....
it will do until somcable is complete.
