I doubt the Greeks are intentionally infecting themselves. I think the Greek Government simply is in a difficult situation. No money, yet a public used to free money demands it. The misfortune of socialism. The rise of HIV is no surprise, u should check out the uncollected statistics of the rest of the world, particularly the Eastern Europeans and Indians. (China??) The numbers are staggering and scary. Even in the UK, the disease is rapidly increasing. IN the us too, I know at least three people with that disease from accessing their files at my work.Greek, a nation of welfare and self entitleness, being refused "freebies" Will no doubt revert to self destruction: Drugs. With impaired judgement come this fabulous disease that I pray to God protect us and our loved ones from. There is NO money on earth that is worth that disease.

HIV goes undetected in many countries, developed and third world nations alike, the rise in HIV benefit recipients in Greece is certainly an intriguing trend, perhaps a pattern exist where all economically struggling nations have this same rise in HIV benefit recipients.

The dailymails interpretation is however rather poor, so I am going to discard their nonsense.

I reckon people aren't injecting themselves intentionally but rather the HIV benefit offer acts as an incentive to get tested during difficult financial times.
