"you can not use Wikipedia as a serious source where any idiot can write what they want, I will rather believe the armies of Cuba and East Germany who after all did make a serious analyse of the Ethiopian military capacity and realized how Ethiopia could mobilize 500000 men alone from Addis Abba, and you are trying to tell us the joke that Ethiopia was figthing with only 40000 men in some areas. Any somali sub-trube can mobilize 40000 men let alone an 80 million strong nation.

Lion,

This source isn't significantly different (50,000 as opposed to 40.). The biggest figure I have seen was for arming 60,000 peasants during the earliest phase of the war. Only 20% of these reformed at Harar, after the initial defeats.

I can come up with several more links if you like. Wiki is usually good for a close first approximation. :P

Again I will rather take the Cuban and East Germany military analyse from 1977 more serious than a 2004 CIA factbook who looks like it was written for american high school children

by the way " Lion " ? :?

The next day I flew on to Ethiopia The Ethiopians had come up with a division, and I had brought a company of Cuban soldiers with me. There is also a strong mass movement. In the capital, 500,000 people can be rapidly mobilized. In February, our study delegation, after inspecting the army divisions, had determined that of the hundreds of generals, all but two should be chased out. The officers and NCOs have taken over the leadership of the country.
those 500000 men as Cuba and east Germany already said was mobilized aganist our few troops in the summer of 1977 and yet they lost the war!

Why ethiopia and liberia were never colonized should be something that was done as part of the colonizers purpose-ful doing---i just want someone to point out what was gained by not colonizing these two countries.

It's pretty simple, lots of people tried from Egypt to Sudan but most openly Italy. The reason it was never colonized is because Ethiopia won all those wars and actually united under "one cause" as you put it, thus preventing being colonized unlike virtually every other African and Asian country.

The reason why so many African countries have red/yellow/green as their flags is because of Ethiopia's embarrassing defeat of Italy during the first Italo-Ethiopian War, especially at the Battle of Adwa. Ever since then everything African or black has those colors. Later on blacks in the New World would even come to view a later Emperor of Ethiopia (Haile Selassie I) as god himself, although he was pretty much worshipped as a god in Ethiopia already.

During WWII Italy tried to colonize Ethiopia again and started the second Italo-Ethiopian War. They got payback for the earlier defeat by Ethiopia under Emperor Menelik II about 40 years ago. Using poison gasses (in contravention of the Geneva Protocols) and superior weaponry, they defeated and militarily occupied Ethiopia for 5 years (like Vichy France was militarily occupied by Nazi Germany). Throughout the occupation Ethiopian freedom fighters (including even Somalis, some who were honored by the Emperor after the war) resisted the Italians, and with British help the Ethiopians eventually pushed out Italy by the end of the war, restoring Haile Selassie to the throne.

People from all sorts of ethnic groups and speaking different languages in Ethiopia were fighting and beat the Italians that day at Adwa.

As a somali, this is hard to take in. However, I have no proof otherwise. My hat goes off to them.

The coastal cities of somalia were trading hubs for centuries and were part of one of the most important trade routes in history attracting romans, greeks, chinese, indians etc. We were far more wealthy and powerful than any ethiopian kingdom. We were an agricultural and sea-going people. Then something happened and we regressed into xenophobic, dirt-poor pastoral nomads. If Zeila, Berbera, Bosaso, Xamar etc. ever get excavated there's a mountain of historical treasure waiting to be discovered. Just because somalis are nothing now doesn't mean it was always the case.

hargaysaay chill out with the self hate don't act like your fellow 'Somalilander'

Ming dynasty pottery has been evacuated Ras Hafun. Most significant of all.
Also tuulos are areas of interest just to show you the scale of our pas. Fawdawsa near Sheik has also be been part evacuated and similar remains have been unearthed.
But liquid is right Somalis, in the sense of the big clans have a sea ferrying past however it stopped but as we are mostly a oral society we don't know why exactly.
There are tonnes of places in Somali lands that similar finds will be made. I assure you of that.

There are many proofs, but watch this to give yourslef an insight on How powerful Hawiye really is!,.......SXB Somali is two Dir and Hawiye, Hawiye ruled what is below AKA South Somalia,Eastern Ethiopia and Northern Kenya, and Dir ruled Northern Somalia AKA Zeila!

Sxb darood are like Oromos, new comers in Horn Africa, so take your place and watch the expert historian explain the might Of Irir Soomaal Hawiye!
Sidoo kale, aqoonyahanka ayaa sheegayaa in Boqortooyada Ajuuraan ay tahay beel ka mid ah Hawiyaha inakstoo markii dambe xukunkeeda ay jabiyeen ciidamo shisheeye gaar ahaan Boqortaqiiska. Boqortooyada Ajuuraan, ayaa xukunkeeda ka suulay inta badan dhulka Soomaaliya, boqorkii ugu dambeeyay beelaha Ajuuraan waxaa la oronjiray boqor Olol-diinle oo xarun u ahayd magaalada Qalaafe, hada deegaan ahaan waxay xoogooda deganyihiin gobalada Jubada dhexe, Gedo, Bay, shabeelada hoose iyo waliba dhulka waqooyi bari ee Kenya oo waxay kuraas baarlamaan ku leeyihiin wadamada Kenya iyo Etheopia.

The same Ethiopian Emperor burned down Ogaden towns and killed Somali civilians in Somali Galbeed forcing thousands of Ogaden to flee into what is today known as Somalia. The ones figthing for him was sub-humans.
It wasn't just Ogaden, it's not just Ogaden that live in Ethiopia. Arguable the most famous of these Somalis honored by the Emperor after war was one Cumar Samatar for example. Haile Selassie gave him the noble title of Dejazmach and had a school named after him in Addis Ababa (Dejazmach Omar Samatar Primary School) and is rather well-known as a folk hero in Ethiopia today. Omar Samatar was Siwaaqroon, from the very extreme tip of the Somali peninsula that's part of Puntland today, Ras Alula area.

btw there's a funny coincidence since the name of the Somali cape Omar Samatar was from (Ras Alula) was also the name of a very successful Ethiopian general who lived 50 years earlier, who also fought and famously defeated the Italians several times. Today there's a high school in Gaalkacyo, Somalia called Omar Samatar Secondary School
