Puntland Orders Medical Practitioners to Register

Post by GalliumerianSlayer »

Medical practitioners in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland have been told to register within 20 days in order to obtain a legal working license.

Puntland’s Ministry for Health has advised the medical doctors to register with the Medical association in the state.

Puntland’s Minister of Health Dr Sadik Enow said that the decision to register medical practitioner stems from rising concerns about the genuineness of the qualifications of an increasing number of doctors in the country’s health profession.

A Kenyan doctor was deported from the region after he was found of possessing ‘fraudulent credentials’.

The Ministry also announced a new campaign which it will counterfeit drug sellers.

Since the collapse of the Central government in 1991, Pharmaceutical market in Somalia has not been regulated; this has resulted the country to become a booming market for counterfeits of different products including medicine.

Due to Lack of an effective health sector body, the easiest way to become a pharmacist in Somalia is by installing a small kiosk or pharmacy.
