I think Israel is playing games here. Think of it, they give hamaz a soldier that they know will return to them for hostage exchanges at later times but use the captivity of the soldier to further obliberate and destroy Palestine and its people. Becaue a Palestinian live is not worth much to them they don't mind giving a 1000 Palestinian hostages for one Jewish soldier. Perhaps an international support and sympathy is what the Israelis want.

You guys both misunderstand, a captured soldier is more of a liability to Israel than a dead one. Why? Because the government doesn't want their population to ever turn away from this wars that happen so often. How will that happen if soldiers are captured rather than killed? A dead soldier dies, his family can say he did his duty, a real hero, after some grief there is closure, and they move on with their lives. A captured soldier, the army failed by letting him get captured, the family can't move on knowing their son is in enemy hands suffering God knows what faith, they scream at the govt for not doing anything, they get media attention, they question the whole purpose of the war, people blame the govt, public opinion turns, opposition parties take up the call, new government is voted into power. So to get them back, they have to pay a heavy price, especially since they make it a point to leave no soldier behind. So yes 1 Israeli soldier is worth a 1000 palestinian lives, by Israeli standards not palestinian standards.
