What is a average middle class wage/salary?

Post by XimanJaale »

Was wondering how much salary would you consider a average middle class would be?

I think it varies in different countries. However what would you consider a average middle class wage?

I was thinking more like £42,000 or $72,000? Do you think that is reasonable for a 'middle class'?

Good thing about Somalia is there is no tax. Once Somalia becomes stable and gets a strong functioning government, I will advice the government to take little tax from working people or no tax at all.

I am probably in the upper middle class cohort (education and income wise) and make around 130,000 dollars/year. Adjusted for comparative purposes, my purchasing power is twice that; comparatively in the USA, for instance, I would have earned more than twice that. High taxes mean that I have free healthcare, excellent retirement schemes, excellent environment, low levels of crime, fringe benefits, unemployment benefits and sick leave etc. Utilities, housing and basic food are cheap too; vegetables and liquor are expensive though.

How can you run a country without taxation? Income and property taxes are what builds nations.

How do you expect a Somali government to generate revenue if they don't impose a tax on the income or capital gains of the working class, the overwhelming majority of able bodied?

I consider myself working class when taking into account, I talk quite posh but I earn very little, educated and dress well, but not a home owner. No car but that is out of choice as I definitely can afford one, live in a relatively expensive rented home, very safe with low crime.

I think most young people don't own homes so it probably not fair to expect that of me as of yet, but I definitely need to be earning more than I currently do.

You guys are way too high.

http://money.usnews.com/money/personal- ... lass-today

"One helpful yardstick to judge whether you're middle class: Median household income was $51,017 in 2012, according to the most recent U.S. census data. Robert Reich, a professor of Public Policy at the University of California-Berkeley and former Secretary of Labor, has suggested the middle class be defined as households making 50 percent higher and lower than the median, which would mean the average middle class annual income is $25,500 to $76,500.

If you're in the middle of the middle, however – not lower or upper-middle class – that would be an income range between $39,764 and $64,582, says Aaron Pacitti, an assistant professor of economics at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y.

Again, it isn't official. Nobody gets a membership card to the middle class."

Since I graduated last year. I consider myself broke/rich. I got a good paying job... A nice car, I pay rent, I dont think I would buy a house in America. If i didn't have student debts to pay off i would have been rich from my income.

Somalia had free education even if you want to enroll in a Medical University, free health etc but people never liked to be taxed. Even if people were to pay taxes the officer in charge would pocket the money

Average middle class wage depends on where you live, your life style and how you manage what you earn. It is amazing to see how two families making the same income live differently, one is in hell and the other one is enjoying life...

I meant the tax collected from working people's wages/income. I would advice the government to collect little or none. When there is stability Somalia will be rich because of it's natural resources in particular oil and gas. Therefore the government will not be so desperate to depend on taxation.

I don't mind road tax, housing tax and VAT.
