Should Somaliland Adopt the Old Berber Script

Post by The_Emperior5 »

For the Somaliland language , The region Somaliland was known as Bilad al Barbar has any one studied the Ancient Berber Language script and if it is compatible with the Somali language i dont like how we use the Latin Alphabet though its practical very easy.. But we are missing the Uniqueness and since Somaliland had an old Language prior to emergence of Modern Somalis in Somaliland..

it's bloody broken.. most Somalis spell words how they like, there isn't a standard version...

hey speaking of berber....read this article..apparently when this batuula dude visited berbera he ppl were shia??

or maybe he got confused with the fact that isaaq has lineage to Fatima and therefore assuming that they are shia?

Yes! Fcking Yes! Do you know how embarrassing it is to use another cultures alphabet? Look at any community centre and you'll see indian, arabic, chinese, begali, urdu etc scripts and "Soo Dhawow" in latin script.

Really? I always thought Berber refers to indigenous people from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria...

I think we should but only after we've become economically prosperous. Switching to a unique script means obtaining keyboards that have that same script, which would be incredibly expensive, especially for a poor country like Somaliland. Just compare the internet penetration of Somaliland and even Somalia with our Ethiopian neighbours who use the Geez script and you'll see what I'm talking about. Even in the Arab World, some people resort to using weird number letter combinations to write as they don't have the special Arabic keyboard. Once we've established ourselves, we can mass produce computers with the Berber script for cheap.
