SomaliNet's Random Kindness Challenge

Post by FAH1223 »

1nemansquad wrote:I had an idea for Som'net.. something kool and decent to get everybody to do and actually do something as a group.. in terms of forum.

Random act of kindess challenge*, the concept is everybody goes out whenever and do an act of kindness for a stranger or even a family member un expectedly and report back either in pictures or messages, everybody shares it to inspire others to do more and hopefully we can get into the spirit of giving and come together and do something nice as a group. you cannot attain to righteousness unless you spend in charity. the scope of Sadaqah is so vast that even the poor who can have nothing tangible to give can offer Sadaqah so everyone should have something to give.

Please feel free to add your ideas change whatever, let me know what you think..

islam teaches Muslims that giving in secret is far superior to giving publicly, and that drawing attention to one’s charitable actions is a highly undesirable quality. the Prophet said “Allah loves the God-fearing rich man who gives much in charity but still remains obscure and uncelebrated” (Muslim)

but this is my intention, giving charity publicly as long as the giver knows his intentions are not to show off or be boastful, and can donate charity in a modest way sets a good example to the community. it encourages others to follow in the giver’s footsteps and give charity, too

Allah says
“Those who spend their money in the night and in the day, secretly and openly, they will have their reward with their Lord, there is no fear over them nor will they grieve.” [Quran 2:274]

Seems like a good idea, but I think some people will do this with the wrong intentions (i.e. people postings pics of doing acts of kindness so that other forumers can view them favourably, instead of for the sake of Allah).

A real challenge would be to see how long forumers can go without bashing other people/tribes/religions etc.

"Seven (types of) people will be covered with Allah’s shade on a day when there is no shade but His Shade, (from among them) a man who gives a charity hiding it, that (even) his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent"

It is not haram to show off acts of kindness if your intentions are to attract or influence others into doing the same. If it is just for show, then that is haram. Coming back to the back, I don't think I have done anything nice for humanity yet. Makes me wonder why I am here?

I was on Rainer ave south..Perfect_Order's neck of the woods (the ghetto) outside a Safeway & a black lady asks for a dollar..ok whatever..I hand her the buck..she turns to walk away..then she turns back to me..I thought she was going to say THANK YOU but no instead she asks for another dollar. So I snatch the buck out her crusty hands, rip it to pieces then threw it @ her...then went on my way. Some ppl ain't got no manners. That's my somewhat act of kindness for the day..

earlier today, this service station near my fathers house i go to all the time, while waiting in line tired to pay for somethings i picked up, a very distressed mother was in front of me shouting at her persistent child, obviously near the breaking point, she must have been having a bad day..

she rushed out and left shouting with her child, i noticed her wallet sitting on the hidden part of the counter. before i could say anything she was out the door, so I ran out of line before paying and met her near her car, after a quick wary stare i explained how she left her wallet behind, she immediately changed her demeanor and became physically joyful and gave me unexpected hug and said thank you...

i went back inside feeling good about myself but also thinking 'damn i will have to start at the back of the line' only to realize that nobody had moved and the guy behind me told the cashier 'i will wait until that young man returns' and everyone else inline did the same...it just goes to show how one act of kindness can inspire another..

i was really happy..

That's really nice. People don't often do acts of kindness when impatient. I guess kindness is contagious too.
