Re: I hate when Somalis
Not true for everyone. Some people don't speak Somali well because their parents are proficient in English, and they had a bad habit of speaking it at home. What I find annoying are excessively critical Somalis that don't have an empathetic bone in their bodies.

You were speaking more generally so yeah, got confused. You mean...
"Why do think Somali people that have a firm grasp of their language would shy away from speaking it?" In that case...
This is just a list of possible answers to your question.
Maybe they lack cultural pride because it wasn't truly instilled in the home. Culture and language are intertwined, but some people know their language and not their culture. Perhaps they do not have many great role models. Their parents might want them to dissociate from people that are Somali, and might discourage them from speaking. Or perhaps the state Somalia is in does not seem to induce the same level pride like it did in yesteryear (Pre-war era).

Re: I hate when Somalis
I actually met someone in school, and we both worked as student administrators. This duncecap refused to speak Somali or even associate. He was the bigggggggggggest ass kiss I've ever met, always had a huge smile on his face when the managers would walk by and wanted to be called Mo (Mohamuud). He had a lot of self-hatred, and it hurt to be around him to be honest with you. Not to mention embarassing, as I wasn't the only one who saw through his facade.
