Is there that one Somali cat in your city who
Had achieved professionally while some of us where chasing females.
God bless this brother, he is a senior financial advisor. Kid driving around latest bima. So I ran into him today. We had 2 hours of talk.
This brother opened my eyes to the whole stock investing scenery.brother made me a believer.
So my question is how come we idiots never buy shares. Why do we just work like slaves. Fcuk investing in Somalia. This kid bought his car with money he invested and even bought his own apartment. Kid only makes like &90k.
This cat told me this story where one of his co-workers who is a kid that plays around cause he is from a rich cadaan family dropped 10k dollar on shares on obe night while he was on a drunkard stupor on ford motor when ford was going bankrupt. Obama bailed them out and they started climbing. A year later he gets a phone call from his agent telling him to diversify his portfolio, that's when he asked "how much is in my account" and the guy was like "145k".
You can even start with just 600$.

I know few cats that ball and when I say I ball, I mean really ball. One kid is an engineer and makes 300K a year. Another kid is a doctor and makes half that amount and third is a family member. She is a surgeon, she makes a lot of money.

Not to take away from the success of accomplished somalis, but we are seriously under-represented in high-earning industries like: Big Law, Finance, Consulting, Big Accounting etc.
I know a ton of (insert ethnic group) ppl that work for:
- Mckinsey(Eritrean guy), BCG, Bain, Goldman Sachs, MerrilLynch, Carlyle Group ,Deloitte, E&Y, PwC. Same thing with big law firms. Tons of baskatanis, carab, west african work for them. And I'm not talking about indian-Americans or Nigerian-Americans, I'm talking about straight from Africa and straight from India folk. How? They ace the GMAT/LSAT, parachute into a top B-School or law school, attend recruiting events, and bam, hired, pronounced accent and all.
But not a single Somaali that I know of(do you know any?) Why is that? Mainly because we don't have a surplus of academically qualified AND ambitious young somalis. Those that we do have are almost always pushed into two fields: " dhakhtar noqo" or "injineer noqo". That's pretty much it. Problem with engineering is that it has a very low ceiling; you come out the gate making 70k, yes, but then it'll take you 20+ years to reach the income ceiling for an engineer which is less than 150k(after taxes, that ain't sayin much), unless you go into management and that's where it stops becoming about engineering and starts becomes about happy hour and office politics.
Dakhtarnimo, well, you gotta put in 8 years of expensive schooling, it's not uncommon to have debts exceeding 300k, and then low-paying residency(50k max) which can take anywhere from 3 years to 8 years. That's right, 8 years of barely getting paid more than your living expenses, all the while, your quarter-million in loans has morphed exponentially into a figure you'll be hard-pressed to pay back even in 20 years.
So yeah, lotsa smart kids(unfortunately, no somalis that I know of) are going into consulting, i-banking, and big law(which is a risky bet, but good odds if you go to a T-14 school). That's where the real money is.

^^ totally concur with you in so many pints you've raised in your assessment. I must tell you tho that a family member is a lawyer and is in his early 30s. However tho he grew up internationally with an educated family. His father and mother worked for the UN to began with.
This dude I opened the thread with is about 25 years old and he is senior financial advisor of Morgan Stanley. Kid has the cutest gf in town (Somali...she was seated with us last night but she was preoccupied with his new iPhone 6). Thus kid wants to see his fellow Somalis succeed and prosper. He is a big fan of higher education and an obsessed investor on stocks. This cat is telling me that I should even start with just $500 first. He advised me to use scottrade.
What do u think bro?

I don't know that much about stocks to make an informed opinion, Jaale Menace. What I can tell you about Scottstrade in particular is that a good friend of mine was on it...and while he didn't lose money, he didn't do as well as the hype might suggest.
Have you thought about starting your own business? Somali old-heads cleaning up big-time in cbus: home health-care, buying a fleet of cabs and renting them out. Even truck-drivers are getting into the entrepreneurship game.
