Is there a Somali way to cook stakes?
Help a brother out. I like my meat fully cooked and it turns out the way it is cooked here doesn't do the job. I want to know how y'all do it?

Re: Is there a Somali way to cook stakes?
depends what kinda steak your frying.
the more expensive cuts like ribeye, sirloin etc, don't need much cooking.
a quick five mins either side is enough.
ps remember the meat still cooks after turning off the heat.

Do you have a grill? Use that if so or use a pan and grilled the f out of it. Carful not to burn it though and keep flipping sides.
works for me.

^ Grill is a nice touch
Do it the old 80s Somali way; bash it till it's flat. Rub salt, black pepper & oil on either side and grill it on the grill pan/grill machine, or in the oven.
I don't deal with normal-thickness steaks at all tbh, you have to have a certain % of testosterone to digest that fibrous meat
Original Dervish: 5mins?

Can you list that in the order they happen @yumy?
Amira: no I don't have a grill. I have the pan tho.
OD: meat needs more time to cook.

For steaks, the more u cook, the yuckier the tougher it gets.
Undisturbed cooking of each side should be enough.

Re: Is there a Somali way to cook stakes?
It is already in order walal, but I'll expand below:eliteSomali wrote:Can you list that in the order they happen @yumy?
1) Bash the steak (it's called tenderising, you make it a thin flat layer). You can use the end of a rolling pin which is more commonly found than a proper tenderiser
2) once flat, rub a tiny amount of oil, salt & pepper (to taste) on the steak
3) place on the grill pan and switch sides every 2 mins till you're sure it's cooked through. Time will depend on how thin you bashed it. Make sure it is still juicy and not a dry & crunchy enlarged muqmad/oodkac

4) remove, serve with salad, garlic & herb sauce, large square-cut potatoes and of course, ketchup
Step 4 can be edited to your taste

OD: not everyone likes it thick and bloody.

Yummy puts it best, bash it season it and grill it..if u don't have a grill, a good iron skillet will do the job..
I do marinade my steak though, I cannot stand any sort of gamey meaty smell so I make sure steak is fully marinaded for at least 24hr with tamarind sauce, soy sauce(cuz I like Asian cooking) garlic, fresh ginger(crushed) and lime/lemon juice.
I'll prepare it with sautéd peppers onions and maybe asparagus. served over bed of rice or in a sandwich(Philly cheese steak)

This..

You marinade your meats with it..but it's got other use, I've seen some folks use it as a dipping sauce

A1 sauce is way better with steaks. Some people even put that ok Chicken, even though it wasn't made for it.
I make sure I eat Hilib at least once a week. It has become some kinda routine with me. Real men eat meat and not chicken.
