Star trek had good charecter development, but it was very weak science fiction.
There are not enough science fiction fans to produce real stuff for, they have to aim for the public, so they have to dumb it down allot.

Classic authors:

Dickens
Dostoevsky
Hemingway
Huxley
Fitzgerald
Orwell

Modern authors:

Stephen King
Lee Child
Tom Clancy
Robert Galbraith (J. K. Rowling. I like her detective books under Galbraith as I never read any of her other books under her real name)

That's all I can remember now. Will update late.
