Mum was always sweet, no outbursts lol
Same with dad, although his rare outbursts which heralded an impending near fatal backhanded slap would be in Talyaani....farabuto mafankulo maladetto

Re: Hoyadiin maxey idinku habaari jirtay?
I did not grew up with my mum. but here is some classic habaar from my multiple parents.
ayeeyo: qallad lagugu rid ilaah iyo cali abokore (cali abokor is my ayeeyo subclan saint) she usually say that when i break her world war 2 sanduuq or take some cash out of her ganbo.
aabo: no habaar but too much shaabuug
adeer: nedelyahaw nedelku dhalay shug...shug
my eedo was the worst. she was fat and strong and I was very thin qalqaali kid. I used to shiid her all day but she patiently waits to catch me. once she catches me she used to squeeze my little arms and beat me with her dacas. alla ku sii qaadye garacyahaw bac bac.

Displaceddirac and Summerrain, this is a cultural difference between Somalis. In the north parents habaar their kids and its caadi. Also, we call our daughters, sisters and wives 'naayaa' but that a big big no no in the south. In general the northerners have a more uncouth and rough culture, owing to their stronger nomadic roots as opposed to the more agricultural/urban cultural roots of the south.

I did have this conversation with my mom once and her understanding is that as parent she had to be an exemplary role model, if we were to one day be good parents ourselves or ummad saleex ah. Much of the lessons in parenting is from the words and the nature of dealings with the children as that's what children remember most about their parents.

I doubt it has anything to do with what region one comes from.Jugjugwacwac wrote:Displaceddirac and Summerrain, this is a cultural difference between Somalis. Not only is my mother a Northerner but she also comes directly from nomadic stock.

Qalladi kugu dhacdee
Ahbal (my father's favourite)
That was about it really ..although whenever we did something crazy
my parents would exclaim "waar aduunyada kii ka dhiman waaya wax walba wuu arki"
or "Ilaahey faraweynaa" (again my father's favourite)

Re: Hoyadiin maxey idinku habaari jirtay?
Habaar from ur mother isn't a big deal people, lighten up a bit. When u know ur mother loves you unconditionally, anything bad she says to u shouldn't affect u at all. My feelings never ever got hurt when my mom habaared me, in fact I would feel hurt when she didn't do that and instead didn't wanna talk to me when I did something grave. Knowing that she loves u more than herself her habaars become comical when seen in that light.
