Its obvious Somalia will never agree to recognizing a huge part of its territory as an independent state. Somaliland on the other hand have absolutely no intention of "uniting" with Somalia.
So what's the end goal?
Tbh Somalia is in way better position than SL (self explanatory), plus dhulbahante, warsangali, gedabursi and dirta waqooyi can be politically bargained with separately causing a huge rift in the region.
What can Somaliland do politically besides forming a pact with ethiopia (who could careless aslong as no somali region is powerful). That's about the only card I see that can be of use for the SL party.
Since when did Somaliland become a part of Somalia?
Somaliland precedes Somalia as a sovereign nation.
You can bribe who you want but it's all about the reality on the ground. The day Somalia openly supports the so called "unionists" in Somaliland, that's the day they signed their own death certificate. The only reason why they're allowed to "revolt" is because Isaaq politicians actually believe these people have genuine opinions about Somaliland and "Somali unity" when their entire hatred for Somaliland is based on their hatred for Isaaq hence their smear campaign that Somalis actually buy these day. For instance that we're Somalidiid, that we opposed a Somali union in 1960, that we hate the Somali ethnicity when none of it is true.
The aim of these talks was to end Somalia's illegitimate claims on our country because Somalia is not the equivalent of the (illegitimate) Somali republic nor can Somalia represent it while being one of the constituent states of that republic, Somaliland being the other.
Siilaanyo and Kulmiye did the biggest mistake by changing our previous stance which was no talks until Somalia stops claiming our territory because it legitimizes Somalia claims.
