Should somalia be a secular country?
In my opinion, a secular state is the best way to run a country. I do understand that a vast majority of ethnic somalis are muslim. I truly want you guys to look at this from a none biased point of view. what would be the best option? somalilanders can join in as well speaking about their respective country too. majority if not all countries that are successful to this day are secular states. (excluding the money whore saudirabia). what do you guys think? discuss below.
and please do not troll the poll/thread.

Even though I want Somalia to end up like Turkey or Malaysia. The people have the work ethics of Arabs. So a "a money whore Somalia" is more likely to happen if Somalia is to get rich.
"A money whore" is definitely better than the state were in now nevertheless Secularism is ideal.

Re: Should somalia be a secular country?
The Somali people want their wars, clan disputes and political problems to continue. They want to be ruled by religious law. They want to continue to marry 10 year old girls. They want to continue FGM and belittle mentally ill people on the street. They want to continue to create countries within countries.
They are not ready for secularism and won't be for thousands of years

Re: Should somalia be a secular country?
@halmog i respect your opinion.
@warrior What was it like back then? secular?
@rooble yes, that is very likely.
@AbdiJ that 10 year old thing is very disturbing. but i exists through the arab world. truly a poison. Young girl get married to vey very old men. Its so sad. but i disagree. think most somalis are working towards abolishing all of that. they (despite all the petty qabil hatred) value each other. also a government that doesnt impose its religious views on the general public is also ideal. Turkey is the perfect example of all that. i truly do admire them. Even under muslim leadership they remain to be equals regardless of religion.

Re: Should somalia be a secular country?
I'd say a country influenced by Islam but not a Shariah state (there is no legitimate Shariah state and there won't be). A Turkey model is ideal, but I'm intrigued by the Iran model (minus some of the penalties. When I say influenced by Islam I mean alcohol will be illegal (like drugs in other countries), Khat would be banned, but no punishments like stoning adulterers or fornicators.
I little more conservative version of Turkey basically.

@warrior he was also a crazy psychopath lol. but that sounds amazing. i hope one day we can go back to that. even though al shabaab did a number on the people's way of thinking.
@solid that sounds ideal, and i agree. the only thing id disagree with is alcohol. i hate it and i hate seeing drunk people that smell like shit. but i want people to have a freedom of choice. although somalia would be a better place without, freedom of choice is key. Im not too sure about this. but way back in the day, was alcohol allowed in somalia? I've always heard stories about drunk folk but idk.

I do admit if you weren't M.O.D back then you were fucked especially in the late 80s but also it was their fault for testing him especially your mj people
Re: Should somalia be a secular country?
Life is too short to be concerned about a country(look at history and you will see my point), only a power craved individual has the energy to care, for the rest of us sheep minded people (except those enlightened) its all about the happiness of this life and the preparation of hereafter.

Secular states are the best way of insuring that everyone's rights ,regardless of who they are or what they believe, will be protected.
Human rights should always trump religion.
