Now that we know your favourite line, what is your favourite story? Mine is when Cigaal was afraid of going to the battle field and asked his wife to burry him. She did. The enemy came and asked her what happened? she did not reply. Cigaal shouts from the grave " tell them he died yesterday" , In SOmali; shalay uu go'ay dheh

LJ, somalis are entrepreneurs in nature but they do not respect intellectual property rights. The new somali singers are singing/using old somali songs to make money. No royalties paid.

Idman, as that lady wrote in Sahan Journal, I think there is a lot of wisdom in Cigaal stories. It is not only a matter of being coward. He is a smart dude .
My other favourite is this:
Cigaal was given one of the fastest horses. His horse ran like maxaa kaa galay

He jumped off the horse and ran home. The womenfolk asked him; what happened Cigaal? were you not suppose to fight?
He replied; it was a tough battle. Many were killed. Even my horse was killed. I had to revove a spear from his chest.
As he was speaking, the horse comes running: the ppl shout; isn't that Cigaal's horse?
Cigaal says without realising that ppl were listening to him:
"sharafta alla kaa qaad, muusugo intaan hadalka dhameenayo"

One of his worst ordeal was he was laying down when SUBXAANYO used his nose as path and crossed over. He jumped over his wife and freinds.

The dude was smart indeed! At that time when Somalis were truly wild, wilder than their current wildness, it would make sense to be careful in riding a wild and fast horsesLamagoodle wrote:LOOOOOOOOOLIdman702 wrote:Looooool

This dude was ahead of his time and all he was doing was show the emotions many dared not to show. I would love to see a full and well-directed movie about Cigaal Shiidaad. Also, I would love to see a movie about Raage Ugaas; not because of his poetry skills but his understanding of the value of our women. Can you believe a man crying because his wife died in late 1800s ? Markii Raage loo sheegay in naagtiisii libaax cuney waa kii tiriyay gabeygii caanka ahaa ee schoolada lagu dhigi jirey.

I find him as a philosopher; Cigaal, Geedi Shamboow and Dhegadheer are more than just folklores.LeJusticier wrote:One of his worst ordeal was he was laying down when SUBXAANYO used his nose as path and crossed over. He jumped over his wife and freinds.

Remember the one where there was going to be a battle and the men were required to sleep outside in order to protect the family and the house but he made his wife and kids sleep outside because according to him, the enemy will run away if they see him, which didn't make sense but he insisted of sleeping inside. I forgot the whole story but that's the parts I remember.

I agree. Do you have stories about Geedi shambow? I know a few ones; like the one when he decreed that all brides should sleep with him the first night, depicted a banaadiri movie ( the name eludes me now) but Zulfa sings; gabayga yeeraayo guxaan baxaayo, aw geedi shamboowaa laguu guurinaayo.guhad122 wrote:The dude was smart indeed!
