Question to my brother Somalilanders

Post by Kornel »

Asc
Firstly this is really not a troll post, it is just a general enquiry about Somaliland politics.

Every time I watch Somaliland politics I am struck by the age of the politicians, it seems the average age is quite up there, Somalia politics is effed up for sure but it seems to give a chance to younger people like the ministers of interior, planning, telecommunications just to name a few are in their mid thirties, district commissioners in Mogadishu are even in their twenties.

So while not getting in to politics and shit I just want to know whats up with the political parties not feilding young candidates is it a question of money or dont the younger individuals involve them selves in politics?

I reiterate that it is a respectfull question and am not intreasted in flaming

Not a Lander but my understanding is to do with the tribal psychology of Somali politics. Somalis understanding of politics is elders handling tribal affairs. The youth are used to taking the back seat and feel they are disrespecting the elders. The elders are themselves selfish and don't want to break with tradition and give the youth ago.

Somalis understanding of leadership and being visionary is being old while in the West its about having a degree.

Elders are more respected in the north including Djibouti, Somaliland and Somali Region than Somalia. This respect stabilized these regions but it too has its downfalls.

they got tribal politics not Idiological parties

theres also lack of women role maybe they got one female mp who inherited this position from her husband while we have nearly 40 female mps

three of them r from hiiraan, hawadle, gaaljecel and yaxar

I know murursade and saleban too

in djibouti there r civil rights and modern constitution so the women have 12 seats by constitution out of the 60 and plus seats

the thing thats good in having new blood is that they understand more the global politics and r connected with other continental politics so in the long term things will get better.

they can think better regionally and internationally
