You keep arguing that if you don't agree with all aspects of so-called "western values", you are for sharia law.
So stop involving me with "the western world is fed up with bullshit". I'm neither for sharia law nor for policies of the government that infringes on people's freedoms. That's what the argument is about.
AJ, let me ask you this. If a conservative man proposed that schools should teach kids that homosexuality is immoral, what do you think the mainstream would say. Now, you know what they would say, there would be a huge backlash. So why is it in this case, those same points that they would bring up are not acceptable in this case? Get out here with these double standards.
Canada is supposed to be a free country. Where the role of the government is to be secular. Now all of a sudden the government wants to teach kids whats right and wrong? How is that different from using religion to teach kids whats right and wrong on a state level? Religion is just a buzz word here. Its just a made up word to separate "us from them". "O no, see we are different, that's religion, we are not using religion". Again, why is that relevant?
At the end of the day if your an atheist, religion is a man made set of rules accepted by the majority on what morality should be. Therefore, to protect the minority who disagree with it, governments should be neutral and separate morality from government.
BUT THAT'S EXACTLY what the liberal government is doing now with its new policy on the sex ed curriculum. There is a man made set of rules that has been accepted by the majority as what morality should be, and its being forced down on the minority who disagree with it. Exactly how it used to be when religion was used at the state level. Therefore, to protect the minority who disagree with it, governments should be neutral and separate morality from government. That's what being secular is all about.
CHECKMATE.
What Abdi is purposely ignoring is the reason people are protesting. This not about sexual education. The problem is that the liberal government is forcefully pushing their agenda down peoples throats. They are actively pushing a pro-LGBTQ agenda and trying to pass it off as sex ed. Tell me why students will be required to know and understand what a two-spirit (cross-gender) identity is? How will that help limit teen STD and pregnancy rates?
The kids need an alternative to the stuff they are taught at home and need clarification or education in things their parents dont tell them. Research shows that most 8 year olds have seen a porno. The jilbaab wearing mothers cannot explain to them what they have seen. Kids need to know why those two men are holding hands in the store. Its about knowledge. Not propaganda. The kids need to know that if they end up gay the bullshit their parents have been saying about gays is just their silly beliefs and should not turn them to suicide. Its about education not agendas and propaganda, something your side has proven to be experts in.
I am,
Abdi Johnson

Abdi, I'm more of a liberal than you are, but some of this new curriculum is taking it too far for me. The pro gay (LGBTQ) agenda is a reality and it's being forced down peoples throats. Sex ed is meant to teach kids about reproductive health, promote safe sexual practices, reduce teenage pregnancy rates, and reduce STI/STD rates. What does teaching children abut cross gender identities have to do with sex ed? How does it fit into this? The Premier struggled with her sexuality as a child and now wants to normalize that behavior. Parents will keep their kids out of these classes and the children will suffer because there are important lessons they will miss out on. All because the Premier wants to force acceptance of her lifestyle down peoples throats.
An 8 year old child watching porn is a sign of neglect and horrible parenting. Children do not need to be taught why two men are holding hands. They live in Ontario where they will be exposed to it and will come to understand it when they are mentally capable of doing so. I started JK in Toronto, wasn't taught any of that and did just fine. I don't hate gays, fully accept that it's well within their legal rights to get married, and have gay neighbors who I get along with pretty well. You act like Muslims run around Toronto targeting gay couples.
