Smartassery aside, I would think to get the full benefit of a paleo diet, one must also live a paleo lifestyle. And if you're going to live that kind of active lifestyle (presumably minus the periods of starvation and malnutrition, exposure to the elements, risk of homicide at the hands of paleo colleagues, etc) then maybe you'd be better off with a well planned modern diet.

I have already outlived the average paleo human, and moments ago I stuffed some hot wings and quesadillas down my gullet. I skipped the ranch dressing though
I knew you'd show.

Bro, the reason people follow paleo isn't because their ancestors consumed a similar diet. Generally, if you feel better from making certain lifestyle changes, then great. If not try something different. <--- That's my approach. I don't mind an experimental approach.
One of the few things we agree on, Soph :D ..............Way better than the homeopathy mambo jumbo

It's pretty hard to go wrong with pre-agricultural diets. They allow you to consume a wide variety of foods. It's up to you to manage portions and how much of everything you eat though. You need to eat lots of the good stuff and just enough of the stuff that can negatively impact your health when consumed in excess. When consumed in appropriate portions, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, and nuts are all great for you.

A past friend( girl) swears by. She's certain it's cured her of recurrent yeast infections. I have no idea whether that's accurate ( well, I kinda do)

I love legumes and eat them three or four times a week so I couldn't do it.
Still quack labeling as usual. Whatever happened to the gaga-eyed and jaceyl struck Malachite. For a second, I was starting to think you became a tad more open minded. Perhaps not.

I'm taking about autoimmune conditions. And you give me a narrative of a chick with lady problems. Clearly, she was suffering from a candida overgrowth. Just read Dr. Terry Wahl's protocol. It might help allay your doubts about alternative healing modalities since she was once a diehard allopath like yourself, until conventional medicine didn't work for her and she was confined to a wheelchair from MS. She tried functional medicine and it worked for her.

I've heard of it. I don't do any dieting of any sort whatsoever.

I admire people who do though.

This is probably one of the things I would try once I move to Somalia (inshaAllah), but I would tweak it by incorporating Caano Geel! According to my grandmother it is a super food.

Saw this a few days ago browsing, didn't have time to reply.

I did Paleo about 2 years ago and truly enjoyed it. I posted about it back then too:

From time to time we try to re-look our menu timetable, it is actually meaningless but helps certain type of food not to be repeated.

Fortunately Ramadan is coming if it happens we reach it, I normally fast or afurs(breakfasts).

I always fatisize of owning a farm and producing my own food, I normally don't believe most of the food we do have in the supermarkets.
I'm great walaalo. I say go for, I would love to produce my own food if I had the chance. At least you'd have access to truly organic produce. :blessed: Ramadan Kareem, since it's around the corner.

It's pretty flexible so you can tweak the plan here and there. Caano Geel was once called white gold. It's very similar to human milk and surprisingly individuals that have issues with cow's milk actually do better on it. :win:

I was starting to think you were apart of the team. Turns out you care far too much about vanity, but I must congratulate you on making the right choice.

My cheeks get oddly fluffy after a few days of eating this kind of stuff. I thought carbs were just bad on my body, but even adding some bread to my suqaar gives me that side effect. Walle, you learn something new every day. Refined sugar and white rice/pasta/bread...oh so annoying!

Sophhh ehh behbeh
I'd like to look into this lol...The way I reacted so quickly to the food I was eating back in Jan is no joke! I want to visit again without what I had txted you about...

Paleo during Ramadan...can I eat salads and chicken breast? lol That's pretty much my diet right now.

Hey, Evol :rose:

Try it if you like. You can eat whatever vegetables you want and any meat products (fish, poultry, goat, beef etc). I tend to consume more fat then the average person via (olive oil, coconut oil, avocados etc). The only thing you would stay away from with paleo are grains, soy, dairy, legumes, deep fried foods, processed (white sugar), honey is considered ok in moderation, but the bulk of your sugar intake would come from fruits. It's up to you though, some people don't have a problem with dairy per se.

I have noticed tremendous benefits from increasing my uptake of nutrient dense foods. I eat about 6-8 cups of vegetables a day. 3 cups = 1 large plate full of vegetables. I eat (3 cups of leafy greens, 2 cups of sulphur-rich veggies and 2 cups of colorful fruits/veggies). And I eat meat products once or twice a day. I'm pretty liberal in that I don't care about how much I consume when it comes to meat. But I've never had a huge appetite for it either.

:eat:

Now I just have to think of my game plan for this month. Apparently, eating more alkaline foods (veggies and fruits) is better for you during Ramadan, so I might actually fair well.

Well Paleo advises you stay away from all grain, since all grains contain gluten. Also grains normally contain anti-nutrients and gut irritants.
Even for grains that are advertised as "gluten free" they still contain sub-fractions of gluten called prolamine and glutelins. When it comes to % of prolamines protein in white rice is among the lowest, even more so than brown rice, which is why it is the preferred of the two. If you were ever to cheat on a food (in that no food was around). Some people on paleo don't mind a few grains, but many stay away. It's your call. Ultimately its how it makes you feel, which is important. Potatoes do belong to the nightshade family and they are normally avoided, since they can contribute to inflammation, if you have no issues, go for it. Sweet potatoes are a better option. Like I've said, what works for you, works for you. :D

If you are concerned about rice. Cauliflower rice is a nice alternative. Just don't make it a food staple.
There seems to too many conflicting views on Rice in the Paleo community. Personally, I don’t see the issue with rice. Rice is a staple food for the Japanese and these people have the longest life expectancy in the world and are one of the healthiest groups of people in the world.

During this holy month, I will remove wheat/gluten, milk and limit sugar intake to 1 teaspoon a day and report back.

It's funny. It's like we are in some distant future in the west. We are so far away from real food, and how we use to eat our food that we have to reimagine it. There is the paleo funniest one, gluten free, and many others trying to be authentic to our bodies.

I'm of the opinion that you don't have to give up something you've eaten since time and memorial, provided it doesn't harm you. Let's face it Somalis haven't had rice as a staple forever, its an acculturated food. I'm not a fan of staple foods in general, since they are contributing to food sensitives. - Soy, Wheat, Corn, Processed Sugar and Dairy are among the biggest offenders, since they are ubiquitous in most processed foods. They are also inflammatory, which is why I stay away. The thing about paleo is its' not a super strict protocol, its based on observational learning and being in tune with how certain foods make you feel, since you chronicle this in a journal. If you are a person that doesn't have an inflammatory condition. Then I say do as you wish.

Bro, you're American which means you're swimming in a cocktail of synthetic hormones, food additives and preservatives, which are banned in the rest of the world. I'd say Church's fried chicken is as far away from "real food" as it gets. Wouldn't you?
