*So who here has shahaado for...*?
Apologies for the abuse of the punctuation rules horta
So who has a qualification that is[formal I mean,I know how y'all love inaa wax iska biya biyeesataan] for the beautiful language that is Soomaali?
Like how do we not read to our little ones?
Like how do we not appreciate our language and bloody put it on warqad cad?
This is the question one Martin asked a conference attended by many Somalis...Only one Somali man had wax la aqbali karo.

Shahaado for af soomaali? Does that even exist anymore?
Re: *So who here has shahaado for...*?
There is no such degree yet, but there should be one.
Just like there is a degree in English language and Literature.

Thank you for the replies gurls...I was starting to think one needed to be 40+ to get any form of replies in this forum
Utilising the language because it is your mother tongue does not necessarily mean you know the language...
We need to know the grammar...proper vocabulary usage...poetry...
Anyway this cadaan dude has a PHD in Afka Soomaalida. Pretty cool. So basically what he was saying was that he knew more Soomaali than all those that were there...pretty sad
Basically we love the geel jire lifestyle. Like our problems xitaa aa many because we dont understand each other. Like I tried getting this group of girls to be more proactive and basically document their activities so it's easier to do the yearly activities without having to bloody start from scratch each year...first people were being long...then I thought sure everyone needs to be convinced of changing their ways...but then blimey like they DO NOT want to PLAN. Wallahi I was losing my mind when I heard sheikh Mustafa Haaji...we should have this man for a president...say...soomaalida waa geel jire...subixi ee soo kacaayaan...wexee dhahaayaan...maanta maxaa qaban karaa...like I was bisinka like fine if one or two people have this rotten mind set but we have a nation that think like this...anyway then I realised most of the girls had poor literacy skills...don't get me started on their IT Skills...one typed numbers on excel...500... one cell at a time...of course she never wants to input data again...
Writing and making everything more formal will solve many of our problems.
There are courses if you look in the right places. Not an outright degree but cumulative credits can give you one. SOAS University does them in the UK What bugs me is the our attitude towards our language.

Re: *So who here has shahaado for...*?
I think one of my local schools was trialling out a GCSE Somali course? Not sure what became of it...
Re: *So who here has shahaado for...*?
The problem is we are not united. Many as we are in the UK. We don't even have a united community campaigners.
The exam board directors have to look at many issues
1 Where are the qualified people to teach the pupils-the chicken and the egg dilemma unless we export from abroad
2. Lack of parental engagement-Like who will push these kids to take up what is mostly a voluntary course[modern languages are optional]-I work at a school and let me tell you people, Somali parents do not understand their caruurhence have little power over them their kids imma close this case here.
3.We need continuity and a strong case for the usage of the language-xaa ku suubineesaan luqadaan aa barataan ma xumee

Soomaalidu or Somalidu is a "plural noun" so you should say: " Somalidu waa geel jireyaal .. subaxday soo kacayaan .. waxaay odhanayaan .. maxaan qabana-karana".
Are you female? I am asking because men don't use " Bisinka " specially in where I come from.
I advise you to watch Cabdi Good
Re: *So who here has shahaado for...*?
Hey thanx for the corrections
When if at all can I say Afka Soomaalida
maxaan qabana-karana sounds wrong-please elaborate
Why do men not say bisinka?

Sorry for the wrong typo .... You can either say " Maxaan qabana? " or " Maxaan qaban-karna ".Venusta wrote:Hey thanx for the corrections

Af means mouth and language as well. As you know, the suffix endings of musculine nouns will be followed by ka, ga, ha and a.
Bisinka iyo yaasinka, ba'ay, hoogaay, hayaay, tolaay..etc are feminine nouns.

Am I the only one who read this as shahado as in I believe in Allah....
Btw Venusta take Djibouti's corrections come with 3 spoonfuls of salt. "Odhanaya" is a dialect and not standard Somali.
