Zumaale is right from numerical perspective. Somalis' population in Somali Region of Ethiopia are as follows:

1) Ogaden
2) Ciise (Issa)
3) Gadabursi

Dir-a-Dhabe is now a federal city, much like Addis Ababa. Yes, Oromos are recent majority but, boy, there is a huge Ciise population, one out of three resident is Ciise. As a reference, Addis Ababa (Finfinne) is non-Oromo majority. That was historically their city. Things even out.

Rest of the numbers (and clans) being thrown around are mumbo jumbo voodoo censuses.
I'm trolling but the jury is still out on numerical strength in that zone. I have yet to see a wide spread legitimate census. :)

I don't trust any Ogadeen numbers, they and thier clown abdi illey of habash slave boys are traitors. Everywhere darood is, there is fake population numbers, small towns they hype to be huge, lifestock they say are more than actually is, land they stole from weaker guys with weapons from their regieme and always sucking up to the habash.

I wouldn't be shocked if there were more dir than darood in kilinka shanaad. A lot of ciise, gadabuursi, gadsaan etc there.

Isaaq are a lot as well. Sharing many cities darood try claim. The Hy take their land and the smaller arap whoop their liyu dogs.

Hawiye are largest as they are confedracy, take away ajuuran, degodia, hawadle and others then the D&M are largest in Somalia. Overall Dir, Isaaq, D&M and Hawiye confed are large.

Cuz, don't inflate the numbers of the Oromos. They try to use the Gurgura to make themselves the demographic majority in Dire Dawa but it has not worked. The non-urban Woreda of Dire Dawa Zone is called Gurgura for a reason hence why the Oromos are desperate to turn them against their kin. The Gurgura might mainly identify as Oromo speakers in a census but when shit hits the fan they are Tolka as the IGLF illustrates. Hops things stay that way.

The issue of fitting into the new ethno-federal structure became controversial to the Gurgura because they share both Somali and Oromo identities. They by-and-large speak Affan Oromo (Oromo language), while they trace their genealogy to Somali (Dir Somali clan family). In the ethnic frontiers of the Oromo and the Somali where there have been cultural and linguistic interactions at least since the sixteenth century (Caulk, 1977), there are several clans like the Gurgura with shared Somali and Oromo identities. In the context of Dire Dawa, the ethnic identity of the Gurgura became contentious as their decision to join one of the larger ethnicities could have implications on the quest of the two regions to have control over Dire Dawa. Both the Oromo and the Somali protagonists use their own narratives to bring the Gurgura to their side. But on the ground, to the dislike of the Oromo, many prominent Gurgura, including traditional leaders, have identified themselves as Somali.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Ogaden is the largest Darod clan in Ethiopia's Somali Region, and may account for 40 to 50 percent of the Somali population in Ethiopia. The Ogaden clan "constitutes the backbone of the ONLF".

So if you calculate that Ogadens in Ethiopea are merely 2 Million people so lets make it 1.5 Million
Only in Hargeisa there are 1.5 Million people and I am not Isaaq... For sure Isaaq clan has more population than Darood.
