Somaliland is an utter failure

Not as much as a failure as the south, but an utter failure nonetheless. Its politicians and its diaspora have failed it. Even after 25 years A QUARTER OF A CENTURY of peace and stability, in 2015, in the 21st century it has:

No effective legal system
No financial system/institutions
No regulation of the economy
No economic growth strategy
No sidewalks/pavements/street lights
No water treatment plants
No sewage & waste water systems
No roads
No modern, international standard ports
No modern, international standard airports
No power plants
No factories
No manufacturing industry
No proper healthcare facilities
No hospitals
No high quality education
No employment
No welfare/social security for the most vulnerable people
No ICT industry (excl. telecoms.)
No world-class universities
No world class architecture


Corruption, corruption, corruption
Dependent ENTIRELY on imported foodstuffs
Extreme shortage of water
Half the population addicted to QAT ($100's of millions given to ETHIOPIA every year)
Still exporting basic LIVEstock in 2015 (no modern mechanised abattoirs, no value added activities)
The majority of the population lives in utter destitution
A remittance-imports-livestock economy monopolised by a small group of rich men/politicians
Poor property ownership laws/rights

But there is 'peace' and 'democracy'... and the clan-obsessed morons can bootyclap for Kulimye/UCID/other pointless parties, so its allright!

You've put unreasonable high standards for an isolated
country that is recognized by no one. Lack of access to WTF, IMF, World Bank and the international
community in general would diffidently get things going a bit faster. Look, Xamar was a burning shithole just yesterday
in 2012, look how much it came today. You think all that happened because AS have been pushed from there and u have peace? No, but thanks to the international institutions and foreign countries an (specifically Turkey) from where do you think the famous "Moqdishou today pic" thread was being funded from? You should also be aware that the majority of the aid destined for all of Somalia (Including SL &PL) is being diverted in Xamar. Hell, even scholarships offered by Turkey for SL & PL region(s) are all being reserved for Xamar students.

If anything, the political class in SL need to be exterminated. Absolutely unqualified and short sighted leadership.
But what their procedures managed to achieve in these 25 years in the middle of a very hostile environment was remarkable.

Do you know that that majority of peace conferences from 1991 to 1997 where funded by diaspora
Somalilanders themselves? When southerns couldn't even come on the same table to negotiate a ceasefire, we where the first to extend our arms for peace & nabaad. Till today, you're being forced to meet each other under foreign guidance, I think it's is a clear signal of the state of Somalia today. Nor I think you can judge SL considering the entire south is heavily underdeveloped in every sense of a word.
While Mogadishu, isn't what I would describe as a safe city.
