Assad is directly responsible for the radicalization of the rebel groups. At the start of the war there was a legitimate moderate opposition backed by the people but he released and funded extremists who exacerbated the civil war so he could paint the opposition as terrorists. He wanted to paint himself as the good guy fighting AL-Qeada and ISIS terrorists to rest of the world and he succeeded so now the world is being forced to work with him. That is why he has been so focused on the FSA and other moderate groups these past few years while avoiding the real terrorists like ISIS and Al-Nusra.

He has a high IQ alright, you would need that in order to come up with such an ingenious plan.

Abu Ali aka Putin absolutely descrated Checnya and as brutal as Assad, may they both be cursed in the afterlife for the whole slaughter of people. Assad kills 10x more people than the rebels with his indiscriminate barrel bombings and mass slaughter of dissidents.
