AU To Dispatch Peace Making Force to Burundi

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

WTF is going on with the AU? They are planning to dispatch peacemaking force even though the Government of Burundi opposes such a move:
An AU fact-finding mission returned from Burundi on Sunday and in its preliminary findings it said "members of the team heard reports of arbitrary killings, torture and the arbitrary... closure of some civil society organisations and the media".
Ethnic conflict between Hutus and Tutsis in the 1990s claimed an estimated 300,000 lives.
Mr Nkurunziza is the former leader of a Hutu rebel group, who has been in power since a 2005 peace deal.
Both the government and the opposition are ethnically mixed.

The birds come home to roost. Chaos in all of the AMISOM countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Burundi. Uganda and Djibouti are next.

"We are a troop-contributing country to several African Union peacekeeping missions in Africa and now they want to bring peacekeepers to our country? Why don't they just return our troops if they think we need help here?"

The African Union gave the Burundi government 96 hours to cooperate fully and accept the deployment of peacekeepers, warning that it reserved the right to enforce its decision to send in forces - as per its charter.
:lupe: How did all of Africa agree to join and form the AU if the charter actually allows the AU wield that kind of power? I understand if the country is in complete anarchy like Somalia but Burundi's government still holds effective control over their country. This is some messed up shit if they can just intervene forcefully and violate a country's sovereignty like that.

Burundi has forces in Somalia to help the fragile government.
Civil war is about to break in Burundi and their fragile government need help.

So the AU want to send a "peacekeeping force" to Burundi to help the fragile government whose troops are in another country helping its fragile government. Lol

Waa bah a pantomime playhouse afrikadu.

Lancer,

The idea is to stop genocide from reoccuring again. However, there is a fine line between the typical African conflict and genocide.

Jalaludiin - AMISOM is simply a cost effective foreign intervention by Western countries in Somalia. In fact, it is the cheapest peacemaking force in modern history.

Africans will continue to kill each other because of arbitrary lines and borders designed by some old white guys 100 years ago.

Do you honestly blv what you wrote above? This is the nonsense spewed by dictators in Africa to keep on ruling. The white man was also responsible for the borders in Europe, the Americas, Asia; but in most of these countries, conflicts are mitigated, people work hard and the love for power is not as potent as that in Africa.

Most of African cuountries gained independence more than a century ago. There are very few border conflicts in Africa. What is killing Africans? abject poverty, pathological corruption, superficial lifestyles, preventable diseases, love of power, etc Now the white man is reponsible for many ills in thhis world, but AFRICANS are responsible for remaining poor, for love of power, for being passive, for breeding like rabbits without any economic responsibility.

About the so called peace keepers. This is the new way for African countries to train, arm and pay their soldiers. It is a good business model. PAID FOR BY THE UN!!!

But isn't it an irony that Burundi which has a peace keeping force in Somalia will itself host peace keepers? Somalia and its Balluchistans should send peace keepers to Burundi.

I didn't say the Africans weren't responsible for their fate. I said as long as fake lines on a map exist, ethnic tensions and mistrust will derail any sense of unity and cohesion. The Africans are not like the Asians who are more intelligent and have a longer history of statehood and ethnic/racial identity. Love of power has nothing to do with Africa's situation. Asia has had it's fair share of dictators and authoritarian regimes and yet 90% of the poorest countries on earth are African. The problem is immorality, corruption, laziness, complacency (just look at how happy Somalis are at building 1 mile of road), and Western interference and exploitation.

Also last time I checked, Somalia is the one who asked for peacekeepers. Burundi didn't force themselves on Somalis.

I would not say they're entirely arbitrary, there are historical, geographic and tribal reasons for some of the borders created. The alternative would be to create thousands of states each representing some illiterate mini tribe. I doubt that would end well in every way.
