Ethiopia opposition: 80 killed in protest against land plan.

From what i understand, the Oromos were upset because of the "Addis Ababa Master Plan", which basically means the government was going to incorporate surrounding areas into the city of Addis Ababa.

So the Oromos protested this and were killed? For those of you who know much about Ethiopia, what Ethiopian group (Qabiil) owns Addis Ababa and its surrounding area? Is it the Oromos, Amharas or the Habashis?

I am just curious.

addis ababa was originally oromo land but the amharic emperor menelik the 2nd took it over in 1886 and turnt it into the capital of abbysinia, if the city spreads to its surroundings that means oromos will lose more oromia land, which is outragious. xabashi is just the amharic and tigray basically the black ruling gaalo of abbysinia.

Good article. It seems like Ethiopia has unresolved issues that can blow up anytime.

Good luck to them.

Also, i read online that if u travel 15 miles outside of Addis Ababa in any direction, than u are in Oramia. LooL like the city is surrounded in all directions by Oromos.

If the Ethiopian government was smart, they would buy the land from them instead of forcefully taking it away from them.

True, but the Tigray want to use Addis Ababa's enlargement to divide the Oromo Region. Addis is located at the center and thinnest part of Oromia, by expanding it you cut off the eastern, mostly muslim Oromo and the western mostly christian oromo. The Tigray are playing from an old book, but the Oromo of today are wide awake and are more ethnically aware than in the past. Neither Christian nor Muslim Oromo want to be seperated from one another.

Waan gartay. But i don't believe its a conspiracy theory sxb. Cities naturally outgrow their boundaries. And spill over to surrounding areas.

Look at Xamar for example, almost half of the population left after the civil war. And now people are returning en masse so much so, the population of the city has almost doubled.

Compare that to Addis Ababa. A city that hasn't seen a single day of fighting, so of course it would grow even faster and expand into Oromo lands.

There is no hidden agenda or conspiracy theory. Oromos should negotiate with the government and get a fair price for their lands.

U can't stop progression.

The Ethiopian government forces is also wrong for shooting at its citizens.

Both sides are wrong and need to compromise for the good country.

Addis Ababa was a small Oromo village called Finfiine. Menelik II moved his capital there with the support and endorsement of Oromo leaders including his wife. He, himself, was rescued by the Oromo and they saw him as one of their own. It is like PL imprisoning a Dhulo leader who is close to the Isaac and married to Isaac by SL.

He can come to Hargeisa right?

The idea to make Addis Ababa the capital was his Oromo wife. She was a clever woman herself and made many vital decisions for Menelik during his rule and after his death. She for exampled crowned Haile Selassie dismissing Lij Eyasu (child Eyasu). She really did Oromonize his empire but the question is was she more Christian than Oromo?

Menelik was like that and it's false he hated Oromo. Why would he marry one if he hated them? Why would he want an Oromo woman to give him the next leaders?

Menelik wanted to unite the entire region and he saw all Hornians as Abyssinians regardless of ethnic but no doubt he favored his Tewahedo Christianity over Islam and so we can accuse him of being Christian radical but not tribalist. He was far from there.

He was inspired by the man who imprisoned him (Emperor Tewodros II).

Before this two there were dozens of rulers across the land and every region had its own tribal chief, Ras, Dejazmach, Wagshum and Emperors that's why Menelik used Nagusa Nagast (King of Kings) meaning he conquered the rest and unified.

Anyways he didn't hate Oromo but the guy was ultra-expanionist and clever politician.

The entire Addis is surrendered by Oromo farmlands.

Addis is sure expanding but farmers are not compensated for their lands. There is no other option. Eviction in the name of development is never correct in any language or national development scheme.

There has to be ways for the farmers to continue making their livelihood. They must be allocated perhaps new farmlands. They are now homeless and with no income. That is where the issue is.

The Oromia Regional President Kedir Muktar supports the so called Master Plan but the public doesn't.

It is now Oromo vs Oromo police/military just like Menelik days.

Some Oromo are willing to kill in the name of 'government and development'.

Tigrais have no presence in Addis apart from the TPLF and their families.

Addis is no different than Cape Town, where the whites rib the rewards but the locals live in shanty towns.

What comes around goes around. Those primitive Gallas used to steal Gurages and Hararges land during the Great Oromo migration, the Habeshas are attempting to do,the same with Shewa. In the end it was never there land to begin with, The Oromo chiefs used hunt Harari and Gurage children and Men hundreds of years ago, then take their women. Thats how they Oromised the region. Oromos are just gettjng a taste of their own medicine.

Whatever happens, the Amhara must never be allowed to have power ever again. Those Mofos will start to claim Hargeisa, Djibouti and Berbera as theirs.
