Bill for Obama family holidays tops $98m

United States President Barack Obama's 16-day Christmas getaway in Hawaii will bring the cost of his family's personal travel during his time in office to more than $US70 million ($98 million), according to a new study.

This year alone the estimated bill for the US First Family's holidays was $US11.6 million, including golf trips to Florida and California, and Michelle Obama going skiing in Aspen.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, the conservative watchdog which compiled the study, said: "The Obamas are treating Air Force One like an Uber ride.

"President Obama seems oblivious to the burden he is placing on Americans with his continuous vacations, getaways and political junkets at taxpayer expense."

It costs more than $US200,000 an hour to fly Air Force One, meaning $US3.6 million for the round trip from Washington to Hawaii. It is the Obamas' seventh family holiday in Hawaii during his presidency.

exactly! that is not much vacation days.

Transportation is where taxpayers mostly foot the bill. Air Force1 bill is usually 180k/hour. Presidents pay for their own expenses outside of transportation and security. Still maybe chattering a private plane would be way cheaper during holidays @ around 50k per trip across the country; DC to Hawaii for example.

So if this articles intent is to portray the Obama's as the over exuberant first family Romonovs, perhaps it's better to pay same attention to previous presidential holidays topping well over 500 days..same transportation/security expense applicable...do the math
