You can name a street after Sheffield but it is pointless to change the history of a place because some councils recognize you. You should do like Hargeisa and name Xaafadaha after SNM Mujahids.
There is Xaafad in Burao named Afgooye. Question to reer Burco out there, anyone knows why it was named Afgooye?
There is Xaafad in Berbera called Xaafada Finland.
Reer Burco are obsessed with cities'/countries'/regions' names. Abu Dhabi, London, Afgooye, Qandahar, Jermalka, Scandinavia and now Sheffield. I think it is because most of Somali speaking people in diaspora are from Burao.

Xaafada Jaaliyada fokers used to shiid us there dad xun baa degen. Xaafada Tuwali ayeeyadey baa degen. Burco is not bad it can be boring. the mosquitoes drove me nuts. Once I solve that problem I can live there. Does bif baf keep them out all night if you spray before bed. I hate using marooxad maybe air conditioning is way to go.![]()

Look he started this xaafad and decided to name it October after his revolutionary council, which is the month they came to power following the coup. Every year Barre put the nomads thru drills in October.

Lancer kindly leave this guy alone. He is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
P.S. Xafaada October was named after Xaaji October, well known Burcaawi his daughter Hamda Haji October is news presenter in Somaliland National TV, not the kacaan month. As far as I know Siad Barre is in Nigeria not Burao, you can pay him a visit there if you love him that much.

Re: Burco Xaafada October aerial view
That makes no sense. No one heard of Haaji October and even if his name was that it is possible he was named that because he organized October celebrations for Barre in Togdheer region.
What was special about the Haji to be named after a suburb is another legit q?
Can our friend from Djibouti, who still has nightmares over the long dead Barre, explain how the Haji got the October name in the first place even if his story is remotely true?
Still the same thing guys. The old leader was visionary. No need to have nightmares over him. He died beyond 25 years ago.

If you haven't heard of him does that mean no one have ever heard of him?!!AwRastaale wrote:That makes no sense. No one heard of Haaji October and even if his name was that it is possible he was named that because he organized October celebrations for Barre in Togdheer region.

What was specially about October month or Afweyn coup d'état to name one of Burao oldest quarter over it!! Haday sheekadu tahay bil jecayl ma luu bixiyo June misa May misa bishi barakaysniid ee Ramadaan. Do you think reer Burco are infatuated with Afweyn like yourself ? When you build your own Utopia you can name it over your visionary man.
Xaafada October was named after Haji Ahmed Haji Mahmoud aka "Haji October".
Waxaan jaceyl ka badan. Waxaan baqaya inaad gaalada isku qabsataan bisha October oo aad ku tidhahdiid kacaanka ka hore muu jirin.
