How the hell did Meles and Ahbash stop Ethiopian Muslim protest back in 2012?

Back in 2012, over millions of Ethiopian Muslims protested all over the country over accusation of Ahbash spreading incited by Meles Zenawi and it turned violent.

How the hell did it stop when they they had the chance to win because all ethnics rallied together? Unike Arab spring, it ended up with overthrowing their own dictators. Ethiopians decided to give up.

Why are Ethiopian Muslims are so weak and submissive to the Christian minority regime when they make 60% of the populution?

Oromo protested for weeks for the whole month but they stopped. 150 died for nothing.

I wouldn't say the Oromo protests were a failure, Oromos got what their wanted which was a halting of the adis ababa expansion. And most Ethiopians would rather have peace and survive another day in the poorest landlocked country in the world than have instability and end up like Somalia with a portacted civil war that would last for decades and further destroy any prospects of development. Not to mention most Muslims don't make that much considering Christians makeup atleast 40 percent of the population and there's significant portions of southerners who follow traditional religions. Is it true that a significant portion of the Oromo practice their indigenous religion? If so how widespread is this belief?

Not true Haraboy. The reason why it's portrayed as a Christian country is becaue of the so-called constitution stated so and its rulers are Christian.

However, it's true Ethiopian Muslims make up to 60% of the population according to them. Under Derg [Amhara rule], the Muslim census was 60%. Under TPLF [Tigrean] rule, Muslim census is 34%. Muslims and political organization there accuse the regime of doing this for political and sectarian reason.

Ethiopia is considered by most a Christian nation, chiefly because the ruling government is Christian, but according to many others, and to several studies, it has, in fact, a predominantly Muslim population. Some put the proportion of Muslims in Ethiopia as high as 65 percent.

Even anyone who is familiar with the ethnics and their region knows this. For the starters, most Ethiopians are Cushitic and Cushitic is a majority Muslim speaking group.

Muslim = Arsi, Wollo, Jimma, Somali, most of Shewa, Afar, Benshangulle, Cambata, Hadi, Balae, Haraghe and Harer region.

Christian = Tigray, Gondar, Gojjam, Kefa, Wellega and Northern Highland regions. Plus, Amhara Muslims is 18% and Tigray Muslims (called Jebertis) is 6%.

Pagan is heavily concentrated by Southerners.

Anyway, back to OP, the reason why they are weak is because they are only loyal to their own ethnic groups. Somalis are more concerned of Oromo Muslims than the regime and vice versa. Afar are more concerned of Somalis than regime and vice versa. Harers to Oromos. Sidama etc. They consider each other as threat to each other over land than the regime.

They're too disunited. When they remove this mentality, they would easily topple the regime. It took tribal enclaved Gondar Abyssinians 700 years to create their dream Ethiopia because ethnic sultanates were united but were weakened (thanks to European colonization).

I dont think Relgious based nations are ever a good idea. Nearly every ethnic group except for the minor ethnic groups like Afars and Somalis/Harari have significant christian populations. I think this century has shown that religous based nations never works because there needs to be a seperation of state and church for a state to represent the interests of every creed and every nation. And Somali wahbabhi Islam is way different to Oromo/Harari sufi Islam. Many Oormos even combine traditional waaqaism with Islam. Culture is very different too. If Somalis cant even unite amongst themselves because of clannism, how do expect several very different cultures do unite under the banner of Islam if everyone practices their own version of Islam and have vastly different cultures and beliefs of how a church and state should function. There will be civil wars every few years if such a state existed.
