Dude, in the East Hararghe/Jijiga Zone, Oromo and Somali identity is interchangeable as the Afran Qallo Oromo are in many cases indistinguishable from Somalis and have subclans which are of Somali descent . Why do you think the Oromo buggers became so numerous after their expansion into the Northern parts of the Horn?Halmogg wrote:Zumaale, oromized dir? Do they still speak somali and how can u tell the ones that were originally somali?
You can tell because their clan names betray their Somali origin such as the Warra Bursukh (Barsuug), Warra Qallu (Means Sheekhal Priests),Jarso: Warra Maxamud, Warra Cumar, Warra Cusman, Warra Dawaro. The Babille Afran Qallo Oromo are named after a region and are not even an Oromo clan; they are mainly Karanle, Gugundhabe Hawiyes and other Somali clans.
The Afran Qallo Oromo Somalis switch to a Somali identity when they venture into Somali territory and are not as exotic in appearance as the other Oromos that have swamped Waqooyi and Bari in more recent times.
The Gurgura of East Hararghe and Dire Dawa were not incorporated into the Oromo clan structure but are mainly Oromo speakers due to intermarriage with neighbouring Afran Qallo, and the adoption of a agriculture. A lot of the 'Oromos' you see in Seattle and Minneapolis are Gurgura that do not speak Somali.
To illustrate how all confusing it all is, look at this Dire Dawa Oromo soap on youtube and look at the first name of the director (Sharmarke).

thanks for the explanation bro, walle we are in deep shit if not careful.
