What kind of imam do you prefer: one who understands the Western culture and context or a traditionalist Imam who is educated in the Diin overseas?

Basically an Imam like Sheikh Hamza Yusuf

There is a reason why Sheiks like mustafe or Dr Zakir naik are so popular, it's because of their broad knowledge about the religion, the west, science, history iwm. Traditional Sheiks are not fully educated.

The terms used are also confusing.
for example Shiekh hamza ysuf and his zaituna college are not new fangled modern muslims in tune with western culture.
He is a perfect example of a traditional shiekh .. your great great grandfather will have more in common with him than with the new trend of somali imams.

traditinal imams are a dying breed, you may still find some in somalia, and other muslims countries but the modern islam
i.e ( Salafism) is growing exponentially..
The other modern" muslims" are the progressives that are so westernized that you would doubt their belief in islam.
i tend to stay away from them and give them the benefit of the doubt since i dont want to be a takfiri.
