Has Anyone Purchased a Drone?

Post by Jabuutawi »

If so, what kind do you recommend? I have been thinking of purchasing one for a better part of a year. The price range of these things vary from $100 to $2,000 -- quite a price range. I want something durable with a battery life that lasts a little longer than what I see now in the market.

There is also an FAA licensing requirement for certain drones depending on their weight and size. This will be my toy for summer 2017.

There is a young but burgeoning drone racing league. I watch it on ESPN:

I purchased Dji Phantom 3 back in 2014 and recently got Dji Phantom 4. They both amazing drones, but I will suggest to you to stay away from the Phantom 4. I crashed mine last week after losing control. I thought it was my fault but after searching various drone forum, I came to the conclusion that Phantom 4 as many software flaws that the company hasn't found a solution for yet.

Anyway, go with Phantom 3 and make sure you practice on safe location before ever try something crazy.

Note: Stay away from Fly zones. Lately the aviation industry is jamming drone as soon as they enter their areas.

I am thinking about this as well. I am going over PC Mag to see which ones they recommend. I just want my price point to be under 1K. At the same token, I am going to stay clear from anything under $200. Durability is my main concern.

Walal, I am going no where unless you have suggestions, . Summer time is beautiful in this city I am in. Majestic snowcapped mountains, forests, and the ocean make for a stunning setting for drone videos that I may (or not, :) ) share with my Snet fam.

Here's one of my favorite YouTubers, Casey Niestat, comparing three of the top drones out there as of now. They all shoot in 4K, and the price is somewhere from a grand to over three grands. If I were in the market for a drone I would definitely get one of these:

PS: What the hell happened to the YouTube posting functionality of this forum? How come it is impossible to post a YouTube video in full, rather than as a link?

My friend has the DJI Phantom 4. I am yet to take up on his invitation.

Nothing beats the Inspire.

DJI makes the best small consumer drones in the world. The owner is actually Chinese. I was surprised. Read his story and how he was the most wanted man in The White House hahahaha. One of his drones crashed into The White House.

I read tech news the most (70%), followed by politics (20%) and sports (10%).

Not sure in the US or wherever you may be at but in Australia drone commercial license are bit expensive. They can add up to $7000 AUD if not more. The most expensive part are the courses ($4000) where providers have to endorse you and provide you with the license. Then you have to pay $2000-$3000 to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

That is of course for commercial drones but if you are just for hobby you can fly it for free without any cost other than the drone.

But you can't fly within 200m of people. You must not fly in populate area. Must not fly 5km within an airport. I believe the maximum height allowed is 400m and the drone must fly within site meaning you have to see it.

I'm thinking to get the Phantom 4 but Insha Allah eventually Inspire.

The Inspire Pro is an overkill, I think. It costs like $3400 ( at least when it came out). The cheapest of one of the best ones out there is the Mavic Pro, which costs $999, but the image isn't as good as the two others. I really like the image quality of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. That thing is a beast, and it costs less than half of the Inspire Pro's price.

Sxb Inspire 1 is a monster. It is in its own league but it's for professionals especially high quality and fast video studios.

If you just want to play around it's not a tool for you.
