Somaliland and UAE will sign a historical agreement today, $2b worth developments and infrastructure

Post by KingWaslawi »

NO SOMALIA INVOLVED, JUST BETWEEN SOMALILAND GOVERNMWNY AND THE UAE GOVERNMENT.

The UAE Government is going to set up a military base in Berbera and in return, Somaliland will get an investment focused on infrastructures includes " the Berbera to Wajale highway " which cost about $300 million, a new Airport in Berbera with a Terminal ( expected to attract Emirates Airlines & Etihad Airways )and an additional investments for New Water Dams, Water wells, Hospitals , Schools and a total regeneration of Berbera city. The total investment is estimated at around 2 Billion USD. Good luck Somaliland.

CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR WANLAWEYN CLAIMING FARMAAJO WAS THERE AND HE SIGNED THE AGREEMENT.

How come this Berbera corridor is in every agreement? Its in the DP port and its in the military base! thats fishy. Also what kind of a highway cost 300 million? DPs entire investment in Berbera is 441 million and a road costing as much is fishy.

I don't buy this fraud something isn't. Right.

Great stuff. I have just got off the phone from someone who is with the delegation and I am hearing lots of good stuff.

The deal includes both Political, military and economical support to Somaliland:

1. UAE to open an Embassy in Hargeisa
2. Somalilanders able to get Work Visa to UAE. Similar to the UK arrangement.
3. Investments to roads, hotels, resorts, farming and water catchment
4. Establishment of Berbera Military base, airbase and naval base. This will include military school to help Somaliland security forces.

Very fantastic and historical day guys. Ilahay hayno barakeeyo.

Warya X-Playa,

How come you love to argue for the sake of argument?

Do you know how far Berbera is from Wajale?

Do you know the terrain and the cost to run equipment, unearth, blow up mountains? And so on.

Roads are far more complex than ports in most cases.

$300m for 270km road is very cheap. That's $1.1m per km.

The Chinese built 200km highway for Ethiopia for $700m.

At times you need to stop and think about basic things.

How much cement does a 5km sq dock use compared to 270km road?

How much fuel do you need to roll out 270km road? Do you think trucks, dozers, and other equipments burn as much as going up and down in 5km sq?

Common sense.

Burao to Erigavo was 375km and so far almost 200km of is built and it didn't cost that much so whats so special about Wajaale Berbera which is only 249km?

And why the expense to build this road is counted twice both in the private DP deal and in the government to government military base deal?

No need to get all worked up so far all we have is words that UAE will do this and that but in reality i don't see any benefits written on paper about these shody deals.

Ninyo these things are common sense.

Horta the contracts are multi-faced and involves many different laws, structures, operations and parties.

For eg the port is mainly between SL gov and DP. The two formed a joint-venture enterprise.

The Berbera corridor is a separate entity and is treated completely separate.

Much of the cost evaluation was done by the EU and nothing has been finalised yet. Once third party companies give the more accurate cost evaluation DP and SL gov will under take that separately. EU may also provide some of the funds. It does not only help SL but Ethiopia too thus EU is equally interested the externality benefits there.

Now the base is all complete different game and does not involve DP, the joint venture or the corridor.

That agreement will be mainly be overseen by SL defence ministry and the aviation because UAE marines will be paying the aviation for the use/lease of Berbera airport.

Port is under joint venture entity and dividends, lease are paid directly to the budget (finance ministry).

All these things will be kept separate for legal, structural, management, operational and financial reasons.

Then you have all the humanitarian, social engagements, public relations and so forth, which are separate too.

You can't compare Burao-Eri road to this one. This road is going to be built probably by experienced company most likely foreign/UAE.

Lota of trucks will be bashing that road so needs to be tough.

Burco to erigabo is not tarmac road. There's different standard of road like anything. It's like comparing 3 star Hotel to 5 star hotel. Different needs and cost same as roads

It makes sense for UAE to invest in the road if they investing in Port. The two go hand in hand.
