In Old Galbeed we call anybody that your father married to other than your Mom and also your Uncles wives as Ayo. I chuck that word in the Bin and call my Uncle's wife as Habiyar. My Dad calls his Stepmom as Mamo what ever her name is.

The Galbeed stopped using the word Ayo because it's very confusing.
Your Uncles wives are your Ayo.
Your Stepmother is your Ayo.
Galbeed means West, but are you talking about Waqooyi Galbeed ? I'm a little confused. This word is used in Baadiyaha Mudug just FYI.

Kilinka Shanaad, I almost forgot about that, yes Somali Galbeed. That is the Mudug border on the west. Its good that there are still some Old Somali words remembered in that region.

Lol^ iran is 100 horses??
Any somali word that is out of use today or not so popular would be great to learn. It's annoying how we're begining to use arabic/english/italian loan words instead of our own. I'm not a nationalist but hate seeing languages or cultures go extinct by lazy folk.
So' and ori may not be old but the were part of an *older generations recreational use.

I can go on and on. But what is purpose of listing extinct Somali. Now when I listen or read Somali news I almost puke in my mouth.

Recently I have noticed Somali elites are fighting hard to replace the entire Somali vocabulary with bastardized Arabic or English.

" hudheel laga banneeyey ( bana the Arabic for building) why not just use dhisay?

I guess they think if they use Arabic for everything Somali they will get closer to the Arab paradise and if they pepper their Somali with English words they will sound educated.

Two days ago one former SL vice president used the term " ethic" advising the election contenders to be ethical! Why couldn't he use anshax a simple Somali word.
Than list them man! Any word is a good word. Why do you think the brits obsess over shakespeare and old greek philosophers or even latin which went extinct? It's to learn which in turn brings you better awareness about a people and culture.
