Regional forces in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region have detained 40 armed men who arrived at the airport in the regional capital, Mekelle, two days ago aboard an Antonov plane, the BBC's Tigirinya service is reporting.
The report says the men are Ethiopian citizens who are being held in a camp near Alula Aba Nega International Airport.
An official, who asked to remain anonymous, told BBC Tigrinya that the group arrived from Sudan.
Though their mission is unclear, they told authorities they landed at the airport in Mekelle by mistake.
Regional security officials, who don't want to be named, told the BBC's Girmay Gebru that Tigray police forces have tightened security around the detained men.
Mekelle residents have been gripped by the incident and are speculating about the men's mission.

Isn't this a direct treasonous act, arresting federal troops, the situation developing in Ethiopia is looking like split up of the federal framework and much more regionalism and ethnic violence.

It is. Tigrays acting like it's already independent.dalalos101 wrote: Wed Aug 01, 2018 11:12 am Isn't this a direct treasonous act, arresting federal troops, the situation developing in Ethiopia is looking like split up of the federal framework and much more regionalism and ethnic violence.
But it can't feed itself without the rest of Ethiopians, so, we'll see.
It's pretty much getting to the point that, it'll be the most of Ethiopia on one side, and tigray on the other.
Things are heating up in Somali state too.
Issa Somalis protesting and completely kicked out abdi illeys men and setup their own government in the liberated sitti zone.
They also allegedly cut off the roads between Ethiopia and Djibouti....

In Somalia we have ethno+nationalism that we want to achieve high success for, but in Ethiopia you guys hate each other to the bone, always screwing each other over, why even bother, I would support independent Tigray just as I would support independent Oromia.Waachis wrote: Wed Aug 01, 2018 5:55 pmIt is. The only ones hated by most Ethiopians are the tplf elites and their allies. We don't necessarily hate entire ethnic groups, for the most part.
Tigray has 1 of 3 choices... Remain with Ethiopia and accept their 6 to 8 percent share of power..
Join Eritrea but I doubt Eritrea would want them...
Or secede and be hungry lol...
Because without Eritrea and the rest of Ethiopia, they would be landlocked and poor...
As far as secession goes, I don't believe in it...
It's obvious that the borders between various states within Ethiopia are far from demarcated or agreed upon..
Secession would just take us to an even worse position..
So the oromo decided to rule the country and if some habasha dislike it, like tigray, let them secede, we won't fight them, it's not worth it.
We'll just keep the army intact and have the oromo have their fair 35 to 45 percent share of power in the army and government....
I saw people from jigjiga to bahir dar in amhara state to afar supporting the new pm, so tigray would only be isolating itself....

I never understood why people are in a rush to claim other peoples land, its unlikely that Habeshi can sustain themselves without abusing Oromo, its just in their culture, and its a necessity for them as it has been for centuries. They don't want to leave Ethiopia, they want to fight each other over who gets the bigger percentage of plundering other ethnic groups who they have forcibly dominated for centuries now.
Waachis are you a proud Ethiopian ? Thank god I am not from that hell hole, I am proud Somali from Somalia, even though we are in the gutter now, I can look not too far back and watch the greatness of my nation, the progress and equality the power of it etc, this is something you as an Oromo can never do, this is why I would not blame you if you wanted to carve out your own nation, your own destiny and create future for generations of Oromos to come, and not fall for this Barack Obama person like Abiye.
