Why Somalis do not support BLM

I support African Americans because I want to repay them for all the sacrifices that they made to allow me to enjoy the civil rights I enjoy as an immigrant. I do this in several ways. I check “Black/African American” when filling out forms especially census related items. I help mentor young African American professionals. I even vote Black and contribute to their political campaigns.

As for the BLM movement, I don’t oppose them. They are highlighting concrete issues that need to be brought to attention. I may not run into them because I am not a youth or because I seem less intimidating to whites because I am an immigrant with an accent.

Yes the black civil rights movement was much needed, however, in the video I am not discussing civil rights but rather identity. There are problems in the black american community, and it's not just because of racism or slavery. The problems are also because of the culture of "hip hop", gangs. Black americans have replaced their idols Martin Luther jr and Malcom X for Biggie and Tupac.
Nonetheless, the black american community has not supported Somalis, and lately they are the ones increasing hate and disdain towards them. Lastly, there is no other community, other than the Somali community that has historically fought for the freedoms and protection of our people and country.

We are black and face more racism then black Americans, because we are Muslim, Black & Immigrants.

We should be sympathetic to the cause, cause we face racism everyday.

Hi I agree with you on certain points, but the discrimination Somalis face is because they are "Somalis" not because of blackness. Somalis get discriminated against because they speak a different language, are african, muslim, look different, and to some do not integrate well. Police officers and non-Somalis are able to differentiate between us and other people of African descent. Somalis come from a homogeneous society, their lived experience is different. My 2 Head Managers both white one British and the other American. were talking about a Latino guy and called him Arab or Asian. I said he is not Arab or Asian but Latino and they replied both that we are all the same to them.

You said we are Africans and we get discriminated because of it, and our language, culture, religion, refugee status, it’s all the same we are also black, and they see that, but never allow others to be discriminated and stay silent never say well it’s not us, we are all the same. Don’t even allow a Jew to be discriminated. Never mind a Black Person or any person of Color or a white person.

Yes there are some Caucasians and nonblacks who are not good with geography, however, that does not dispel the reality that Somalis are different. The mass of America, knows very well about the Somali community. As I explained earlier, the Somali community is dealing with hate and xenophobia which vastly differs from the black american community. You have heard Donald Trump address the situation in Minnesota, and sadly enough many black Americans share the same racist and xenophobic sentiments. The hate in America, and Europe for Somalis is being contributed to by many blacks and other Africans. We are different and we treat each other differently.
