Yes the black civil rights movement was much needed, however, in the video I am not discussing civil rights but rather identity. There are problems in the black american community, and it's not just because of racism or slavery. The problems are also because of the culture of "hip hop", gangs. Black americans have replaced their idols Martin Luther jr and Malcom X for Biggie and Tupac.AbdiWahab252 wrote: Fri Jan 04, 2019 7:37 am I support African Americans because I want to repay them for all the sacrifices that they made to allow me to enjoy the civil rights I enjoy as an immigrant. I do this in several ways. I check “Black/African American” when filling out forms especially census related items. I help mentor young African American professionals. I even vote Black and contribute to their political campaigns.
As for the BLM movement, I don’t oppose them. They are highlighting concrete issues that need to be brought to attention. I may not run into them because I am not a youth or because I seem less intimidating to whites because I am an immigrant with an accent.
Nonetheless, the black american community has not supported Somalis, and lately they are the ones increasing hate and disdain towards them. Lastly, there is no other community, other than the Somali community that has historically fought for the freedoms and protection of our people and country.
