Meel Aar yimid, dawacadu joogi mayso

Two things stood out to me about the Nicholas Haysom issue.

1. The UK, which for some time has led Western leadership in Somalia, got completely shut down by the US. The US named an Ambassador to Somalia last month for the first time since 1991. That means they have become sufficiently confident in Somalia's political progress they want to take back their place of influence again. In the unprecedented move of declaring the UN representative persona non-grata, it is quite telling the US Ambassador declined to publicly speak on the issue and from reports about the Security Council meeting, the US supported Somalia's right to political independence. The UK was left completely alone in wanting to draft a rebuke of Somalia's decision.

2. The UN SECRETARY-GENERAL spoke to President Farmaajo on the phone TWICE in a week to reconsider his position. The first call was probably inspired by "how dare Farmaajo" and the second call was probably "let's see if he reconsidered knowing who we are." Just imagine that just just little bit ago Nicholas Kay could call the Somali President and the Federal States together with the snap of a finger and give them meeting agendas and now the UN SECRETARY-GENERAL is calling the Somali President twice to negotiate and the UN Security Council respecting Somalia's dismissal of the representative for "meddling in internal affairs."

Haysom was always going to go period. The gauntlet was thrown down and I doubt the UN could force him on the FG. It would have not been a productive relationships for both

What was more interesting, is how the UK(MI6) tried to place Robow as their client and when the FGS shut that down. They tried to use Haysom to pressure the FGS. Farmajo and co. are playing zero sum chess with IC. Bravo Farmajo iyo our FM Ahmed Issa Awad. Plus our ambassador Baale deserves credit for his splendid speech at the UNSC.
