Europeans came to the Horn of Africa a bit too late. They couldn't hold colonies for too long in the HOA due to Colonialism becoming an outdated practice, and the local population being very hostile and uncontainable (at least for Somalia).

They were already planning to pack-up from Africa and head back to Europe for the bulk of the time that Somalia was a colony.
