Kenya's economy is hurting too much; it's losing tens millions of dollars. They thought they could sneak a plane full of khat into Mogadishu, but when it was ordered back to Nairobi, they got mad & reacted emotionally. Somalia's gov should further hurt Kenya's economy by finding an alternative to Jomo Kenyatta airport. I haven't been to that airport for years, as Istanbul is my preferred route. I would advise Somalis to avoid Nairobi.

Severing diplomatic ties with Nairobi was decision based on emotions. Then Qatar told your president to restore the ties with Nairobi again. He did without reasoning or explaining. Taking random steps? Today after Kenya bans flight from and to Somalia your president has tasted the results of his recklessly decision, so It took over 6 hours to travel from Mogadishu to Kampala instead of two hours.

I believe, in the long run, the ban would benefit Somalia & hurt Kenya much more economic-wise. For travel, the president & gov officials have been using other routes for several months. In the short term, it's gonna hurt mucaaradka & some diaspora who usually travel via the Nairobi route.

Miraa farmers call for an end to diplomatic row with Somalia
Image
Miraa farmers from Meru have asked the government to resolve the diplomatic row with Somalia saying they are making huge losses following the frosty relationship between the two countries.

After the UK and Netherlands ban of miraa, Somalia has been the largest market for the commodity.

Nyambene Miraa Traders Association chairman Kimathi Munjuri said traders should avoid rumours going round that Miraa trading in Somalia has resumed.

He said last week farmers made huge losses after the rumour had it that Somalia and Kenya will resume their diplomatic ties, therefore allowing miraa trade.

“On Sunday about 130 sacks of miraa which is about 12 tonnes were transported by vans and loaded in six planes but it was not allowed to go to Somalia and farmers incurred a loss of about Sh5 million,” Munjuri said.

He spoke at a press conference at a Meru town hotel on Monday.

Munjuri who was accompanied by Nyamita coordinator Jacob Miriti and businessman Dan Kiili, said miraa farmers should be involved in the talks to resolve the row.

“We are counting losses and our leaders have failed to help us resolve our challenges,” Munjuri said.

He said the country continues to receive miraa from other countries like Ethiopia.

“The government should move in with speed and ensure we get back to Somalia trade as it is currently our biggest market,” he said.

Munjuri said despite miraa being gazetted as a crop, many counties have listed it as a drug and banned its use.

“We cannot expect to sell to other countries yet it's being burnt in our own country against the law,” Munjuri said.

Dan Kiili said the farmers should not be duped to pluck their miraa as the market is yet to open although there are negotiations ongoing.

Farmers are estimated to lose Sh5 billion monthly since the ban.

It's unbelievable the audacity of those farmers, trying to sell a drug that has been banned in the UK, US, Canada, Holland, EU & most countries! They make the drug like it's a valuable fruit full with vitamins, minerals, etc. Their own people don't consume it, knowing its harmful effects physiologically, psychologically, socially, etc. Somalia's gov should have a long term plan of banning khat for good.

Shirikadda Diyaaradaha Kenya Airways ayaa maanta ka hadashay warar sheegaya in duulimaad toos ah ka bilaabi doonto magaalada Hargeysa ee caasimada Somaliland, dhamaadka bishan aan ku jirno ee May.

Qoraal kasoo baxay maamulka Kenya Airways ayaa waxba kama jiraan loogu tilmaamay wararkaas oo shalay ilaa xalay si weyn loogu baahinayay baraha bulshada, ayada oo lagu lifaaqay heshiiskii ay hore u wada-galeen madaxweyne Muuse Biixi iyo Uhuru Kenyatta.

Even post-coronavirus, there won't be flights (let alone direct) from Nairobi-Hargeysa and vice versa, 'cause it isn't profitable as there aren't enough passengers in each direction. What's more, it would take years for commercial flights to recover in developed countries, so you can imagine the situation in third world countries. Compounding, Kenya Airways is already bankrupt.

Somalia launches construction of aircraft maintenance facility
Image
Somalia will soon be able to conduct aircraft maintenance thanks to the planned construction of a maintenance and repair facility at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu in what now elevates the airport’s status towards meeting international standards.

Transport and civil aviation minister Duran Farah laid the foundation stone Saturday for the construction of the facility noting this was a step n developing the airport.

“I have laid down the foundations to the maintenance center for aeroplanes that will be implemented at Aden Adde International Airport. This is one of the many steps the ministry has undertaken for the development of the airport,” Farah said.

He added that with the ongoing registration of airlines, there was a need to improve the capacity of the airport owing to increasing air traffic.

According to a banner during the stone laying ceremony, the construction of the maintenance facility will be done by Aerosom company Ltd.

The construction of an Aircraft Maintenance Facility is critical in ensuring the airport can be able to conduct repair and maintenance practices thus boosting the confidence of the airport within the aviation industry.

Just in, a report about Kenya reversing the ban:
Kenya Oo Fasaxday Duulimaadyada Diyaaradaha Soomaaliya ee ay horey u joojisay
Sida ay cadeynayso xog Diblumaasiyadeed oo soo gaartay Warsidaha PuntlandTimes, dawladda Kenya ayaa fasaxday duulimaadyada Diyaaradaha ee imaan jiray Kenya, aadina jiray Soomaaliya, ka dib markii ay horey arrintan iskugu afgarteen dawladda Faderaalka & Kenya, laakiin ay Nairobi ka baxday.

Wasaarada Arrimaha dibada ee Kenya ayaa qoraalka Hoose u soo dirtay dawladda Faderaalka ee Soomaaliya.

Warar hordhac ah ayaa cadeynaya in ay Kenya qoraal ay ku cadeynayso go`aankeeda cusub u soo gudbisay Hay’addaha La socodka Hawadda ee Soomaaliya, iyadoo sheegtay in ay go’aankaas ka laabatay.

If true, it must have something to do with Kenya losing a lot, and Ethiopian Airlines 'making a kill'* from Kenya's childish ban.

I wouldn't fly with Kenyan airlines if I am heading to Somalia. at any moment it could be banned again by either Somalia or Kenya.
