Religious clans/brotherhoods in Somaliweyn

Three points I wanna make with this topic

Firstly What are the most religious clans in Somali history for every major region

Secondly do the religious clans have blood ties or are they religious brotherhoods based on spreading the deen

Lastly how have these religious clans become so spread out some of them being found across somaliweyn

The groups that spread deen by travelling are clans with multiple Fiqis in their abtirsi, like Sheekhaal Fiqi Cumar and Fiqi Maxamed Direed. Then there are clans associated with centres of religion like the Macalinweyne RX of Gedo teach Qur'aan, the Ogaden of Nogob and Harar area teach Hadith, the shanta culumo clans in Hiiraan taught Fiqh. Xamar and Saylac were places of study too but this was way back in the medieval era when Spaniards from Andalus and Chinese Muslims came to study religion from us.

The 19th century saw a steady progress of Sufism imports, when tariqa settlements were made everywhere, one could say their role was more to do with preserving basic Islam (e.g Safiinatu Najaax) so to prevent colonial influence.

I can't remember all of Shanta culumo, but it includes Dir, Udeejeen and Sheekhaal. The central Somalia/PL area i would say Dir and Sheekhaal played a big role historically in the dacwah scene. Everyone in Mudug knows Sh Yusuf Direed and Sh Cali Samantar. But by the 19th century, many clans became led by learnt Sufi scholars, like Gaaljecel, Waceysle, Biimaal etc to name a few. They would study to get an ijaaza and be told to stay among their clansmen and build their knowledge.

there were islamic centers From Burhakaba, Goldagob and Dir of Mudug, Harar and Saylac that why you have Reer Shiikh mumin in Burhakaba and Goldogob and Kuurshe in Harar. they were ex Xer landing here and there and till they formed ther own tribe. in Hiiraan we have reer Aw hassan some of them are from Barawe others from Harar, others are local farmers who worked for Ajuuran they all landed in Buur ukur anf formed theur AW Cilmi clan. first Sheekhal clan r from buur shiikh. Aw cilmi was breacher in buur(mountain) they cant be his biological sons minister for education Farah Abdulkadir is one of them and another one is called Aw Mahdi Fahad yasin blongs to it. they all used to be called the Aw clans.

if you can read Somali here is one link but no one knows the facts except they r former religious clans. He says the Somali tribes are the result of religious and pastoral coalitions or based on their skills. that is all i heard.

Let’s not forget the Fiqishini clan that lives in with Dhulbante and Isaaq. But originally from the HG Ayr sub clan. They were crucial in the spread of Islam in the Sool and Sanaag region, in which they still live today.
