HSM’s Hawiye first strategy has been very successful in his first few months especially in the resounding defeats inflicted in HSM and ensuring the liberation of Hawiye heartland near Xamar. As the offensive to dislodge AS in the remaining territories of Hawiyedom, will HSM expend resources to remove AS from areas not inhabited by Hawiye?

HSM should focus his energy and resources into stabilizing LS, Hiiraan, MS, Galgaduud and Mudug. With those areas stabilized, he will guarantee himself another term and allow the establishment of a strong central government.

If he gets drawn into the squabbles of PL, SSC, JL, KG he will get distracted and waste vital political capital.

With consolidation of Hawiye territories, HSM politicial opportunities will be boosted. He will have defeated AS, and secured the only federal government taxpayers zones. JL, KG, PL will remain in their status quo while trying to get rid of their AS. The 3.5 will be more likely to follow the $$$ as all Somali politicians do. I for one look forward to the day of one man one vote.

The law of diminishing returns says we do not have to wait that long until no one can seriously even feign assuming HSM is "fighting Shabab."
