BestP,
Please see my statement to Gashiredle. I don't know whether the Ciise Mamasan are originally Marehan Mamasame (you understand there "is" a Marehan sub-clan called Maamasame I presume?) And neither do you know whether they aren't yet you just gave a statement of certainty when I know you have none. Notice nothing I have said in this topic even tried to argue certainty yet your statement was exclusively certain. In general, I am going to give you a very relevant personal critique entirely resulting from your post.
Understand the limitations of your assumptions and do not argue certainty when you have no objective substantiation for it.
Beyond that, I find the Ciise interesting in that their Xeer, almost singularly and uniquely among Somalis, recognizes, enshrines, and even celebrates (proclaims) their "chosen fraternity" (i.e. not implicated by "blood descent") . This feature is so uniquely odd that it is the only thing I found comparable in the Somali clan system to the level of uniqueness of the Marehan "takxir" of one of their own. I explained it here;

Ciise Xeer is remarkable for two oddly progressive features; one could even say "post-modern" features.
1. Ciise Xeer organizes the Clan in 6 Camps; Seddexda Ciise iyo Seddexda Soo Raac ( 3 Blood Brothers with 3 Chosen Brothers).
This is so remarkably unique that I have long viewed it as the only Somali clan system occurrence competing with the Marehan 'Takxir' (Suspension but not 'Excommunication') of one of their own as probably the two most singularly unique, even oddest features of the somali clan system. The norm in Somali clan system is to adopt MORE lineages for MORE men at arms for MORE grazing and water resources----BUT to make them RENOUNCE all previous ties and essentially be 100% REBORN again WITHIN the new lineage ( AKA SHEEGAD) having ERASED any existence BEFORE the moment of REBIRTH.
Most often, renunciation of past is even irrelevant because more likely they were already permanently expelled from the previous lineage or had lost contact to such an extent it was a matter of sheer survival.
The Marehan Takxir or Suspension but NOT Excommunication of one of their own whose birthright was still recognized by every single clan member is a singularly unique circumstance---but when you take into consideration the Suspension while being heavily enforced was profoundly prevented from impacting even a single aspect of the legitimacy of their birthright and natural affirmation to the Marehan lineage the circumstance is astoundingly a unique outlier.
Clans bring IN men and then SELFISHLY erases their previous identity so the clan poaches or leeches more men of arms than they are able to produce (i.e. FREELY GAINS "permanent existing equity)"-----BUT in this case Marehan EXPELLED men while remarkably SELFLESSLY honoring their MAG "liability" (they will ensure their defense and equity if anyone else dared to take advantage of them is what honoring their birthright is).
So basically the clan as an aggregate lost value (an entire lineage's worth was suspended from the measurement of the clan's net worth) YET the clan decides to honor the obligations of defense and protection for that lineage whose value was made null and void (i.e. the mag obligation is therefore a 'debt' accruing perpetual interest). THIS HISTORICAL CIRCUMSTANCE OF THE MAREHAN 'TAKXIR" IS THE CLOSEST EXISTENCE OF "ALTRUISM" IN THE SOMALI CLAN SYSTEM. It is so ANTI-EVOLUTIONARY where the very fundamental Somali cultural features of survival are concerned, it is remarkably and profoundly and exceptionally unique. I don't even think Marehan themselves realize how unique this is or even both Marehan and Hawlrarsame recognize how incredibly poignant and intimate it is that brought that situation. This was a close knit family in which something unforgivable happened, but even if they forced an "ankle monitor" on their son, his incarceration was home with food, shelter, and protection of family.
Similarly, the Ciise Xeer declaration from preamble that not only is the origin of the clan not entirely blood born, but they in fact recognize and celebrate the act of voluntarily choosing their family is similarly so incredibly and singularly I have once or twice thought perhaps it is not so surprising that Xeer Ciise is the single best codified Somali Xeer.
The reason is what is hidden is hidden because of assumptions of shame or because they are seen as disempowering us but when we are transparent it is because we are empowered by the issue, that we feel confident. They may have the single best possible clan relations internally. Remember, almost surely at 100% the initiation of all Somali clans at the top was voluntarily venture for whatever reason and even today voluntarily choosing of family through adoption like taking in an orphan is perfectly legitimate and even with honor. The prophet Muhammad (SCW) himself with his adopted son ZAID BIN HAARITH----who do you think Zaid would be paying DIYYA/MAG with today? With reer Muhammed ibn Abdullah of course but ZAID BIN HARITH was never asked to take on a new lineage and become a "sheegad" as the normal Somali lineage system of 'sheegad' implicates. Our culture has forced that compulsion, but the Ciise Xeer explicitly enshrines that no, in fact, they do not have to become "sheegad" while still implicating all the equity gains even so. The CIISE XEER WAS MADE BY WISE MEN; more wise than iany other clan.
Also, for a double whammy of uniqueness, the CIISE UGAAS traditionally comes from a subclan that is not one of the biggest lineages in the Ciise. In fact of the 6, I think it is the smallest.AND HAPPENS TO BE 1 OF THE "CHOSEN" BROTHERS AS OPPOSED TO THE 3 BLOOD BROTHERS. And yet their internal clan organization is one the most historically stable and and organized out of all the Somali clans.
Go figure
Regarding 'Cusbayahan,' that is a nickname of "Ciise Darod" who live on the coast of north Mudug and Nugal today. The nick name is rare today but not extinct. Perhaps this explains the implication of their name in a discussion about "Ciise" in Sitti?
Finally,
According to the rules of the Somali language, it would be highly irregular for Warwaajecle to have originally been 'Warwaaq-jecle." "Waaq" is the subject---the subject cannot be dispensed with in the corruption. It is the "qualities" or what is ascribed to the subject that are impacted.
If it was "War-waaq-jecle" then a possible corruption could be "Warwaaqle" or "Waaqseshe" or "Garwaaqal.'
Waa in Warwaajecle is an illusion to "time" or "yore" and more importantly it implicates "War" as the shifted predicate that has been corrupted (something to do with rhetoric/oral communication). Altogether the subject isn't in the phrase Warwaajecle, the subject is before this phrase.
[Hebel X] 'war' 'waa' 'jecel'
[Person X] 'talk' 'yore' 'he loves"
Of course 'war' is the whittled down predicate so the original was probably not simply 'talk."
War could have been Waran or Greetings (he loved) or even Muran or Argumentation (he loved)
In any case jecel became Jecle of past singular and whatever speaking or even oral quality that was more expansively identified is today "Warwaajecle" or simply "Rhetoric" (he lovED)."
