Popular Rahanwayn pundit ShantaSoomaaliya1 "I just realized Marehan has battled 'genocide' for a longtime in Ethiopia."

Post by Gubbet »

10:55 - 33:18 or more than 2/3 of his program was devoted to the events concerning Marehan and Liyu Police in the completely Marehan town of Fadhigaradle in Shilabo of Korahe district of Somali Region, Ethiopia;

Image

Starting 24:57, right after making the observation that everyone else including his own group have long 'given in' and capitulated 'except' for Marehan who have refused to accept the binary choice of being second-class citizens or being ethnically cleansed---Macalinka has a surreal moment where he spaces out with a sudden epiphany:--

" IT IS GENOCIDE. MAREHAN HAS BEEN RESISTING 'GENOCIDE' FOR SO LONG!
"

For 88 years and counting in fact starting exactly February 2, 1935 when Marehan, the 'clan' was claimed by Italy; but Shilabo, their clan "territory" (in which even today Marehan is the overwhelming majority of the territory) was claimed by Ethiopia.

It has been 88 years of ongoing, unyielding, unceasing attempt at "ethnic cleansing" under all political dispensations in Ethiopia since; from feudal to Marxist to Ethnic federalism and the current dispensation which has not yet legally reversed the [il]-legal underpinnings of the erasure which began 88 years ago.

Marehan are literally 95% of the land EAST of the "road" linking Warder and Shilabo towns.

This is how far Marehan extends in the Shilabo district in an actual PROPORTIONAL Google map (the Somali Region made maps they put out INTENTIONALLY bring down the 'proportion' of 'area' of Marehan settlements). This reality is completely erased in all Somali Region, Ethiopia referencing. All. Every single one.

Image

In other words. Marehan are the base foundation of what is Warder, Shilabo, and Geladi territories of Somali region arbitrarily chopped up manipulatively and predatorily into multiple districts (Korahe and Doollo) and multiple woredas (Warder, Galadi, Shilabo, Lahelow-Yucub) so as to keep their land settlement erased through division, dilution, and mismanaged disparately.

The distance between the closest Ogaden/Makaahiil settlement to the "border" is roughly the same distance between the port of Zaylac or Lughaya on Gulf of Aden and the Ethiopian border with Somaliland.

So quite extraordinarily when a Makaahiil or Ogaden says "xuduuda dhaca" or that they are the "xuduud" it is like someone in Harshin or Awbarre---im Ethiopian territory----, further than Hargeisa, Borama, Arabsiyo, Gebiley, etc saying they are at the "coast."

Image

That is what Marehan has compromised on for 90 years since the formation of colonial lines with the first Abyssinian ccupation of Shilaabo territory which was subsequently recognized to Ethiopia.

Marehan was the "base population" of this territory, still even today settling the overwhelming majority of it yet they were labeled "Italian dependency tribe" in the 1908 Italo-Abyssinian War which meant basic political rights and equities due a people as the indigenous inhabitants, no matter how just or deserved, were "dangerous" and a "threat" to Ethiopia because, once again, their lands or equities were recognized to be "Italian" lands or equities.

And because they happened to be the overwhelming majority of the territory, the level of threat represented by the weight of their equity had to yield equal and opposite proportional counter measure for the purposes of arresting and then curtailing those equities. In other words, the more rights Marehan were due, the equal and opposite the proportional denial of rights due. So Marehan as even the majority of Shilabo had to yield Marehan as the "most" erased or "disenfranchised" in Shilabo.

Image
Image

"1st Due" had to be equally and proportionally "Least Awarded."

Any wonder then a Marehan from Shilabo in Adan Low shot the bullet that started the second Ialo-Abyssinian War which contributed to the formation of WWII or another Marehan from Shilabo in Siad Barre took Somalia into the 1977 Ogaden War with Ethiopia?

Despite the injustice in continuing denial of basic political rights and equities due a people over administration of their homes and lands, Marehan is virtually still settling, living, and even thriving in the bulk of his territory minus temporary effects from the compelling burden faced from Menguste and the Derg military dictatorship in 1982 that lead to momentarily pulling back from areas near the Shabelle border with Hiiraan.

But when you hear a Makaahiil/Ogaden say or reference or ascribe anything to do with "xuduuda"---it is the most intolerable display of manipulative transgression.

Between the "border" and him is a teritory the size of Awdal or Hiiraan or Waqooyi Galbeed that is almost entirely Marehan.

Image

He is like a man in "Harshin," in Ethiopia, saying he is at or is the "coast" which is at Zaylac or Lughaya or Berbera.

He is not "at" the "border".

The border is "at" almost towards the "end" of Marehan

Here are 5 Marehan constituencies in this territory, who have been denied the franchise, which will be important for comparing to 5 Ogaden constituencies in the following post that have been privileged qith the france;

1. Fadhigaradle

Having done a statistical comparison using dozens of Ogadeni constituencies (majority even Rer Abdille) and Marehan settlements which should be constituencies (5 of them referenced in above post) ---every single one of the Marehan settlements scored in the top 5% of constituencies that would be eligible for representation.

One doesn't even need to be fancy to come to this conclusion. Just look at the latest ESRI satellite.

Above I showed 5 Marehan settlements that are not political constituencies.

Below I will show 3 examples of Ogaden/Rer Abdille that are political constituencies; 2 of them, you will note, are among the most "well known" Ogaden settlements in Somali Region;Image

1. Marsin (Marsin Galgalo/Marsin Korahe)

2. Ceel Ogaden

3. Kudunbur

Ilaahay baan kugu dhaariyaye, compare all three 3 to all 5 of the Marehan settlements above.

Compare them to say "Uurmadag," one of the lesser known Marehan settlements in Somali Region primarily settled by Celi & Wagardhac;

The entire basis of political representation is an absurdity and evokes "occupied territory" divide and rule from the past (The group in the center of the territory is implicated fully who is then turned against the perimeter who may straddle boundaries so as to keep both occupied and under control).

The Italo-Abyssinian Treaty of 1908 and the significance of Merehan Farise:

Some of the last references to the erased settlement of "Marehan Fariisay/Fadhiistay" ("Marehan Junction") before the post-modern period are in these maps before 1912.

  1. "Merehan Farese"

  2. "Marehan Farese"

      Image

That these are the last maps to reference "Marehan Farese" is not a coincidence. It needs a brief historical explanation.

Between the two maps (1906-1912) took place the Italo-Ethiopian Treaty of May 16,1908 which tried to finally mark a border between Ethiopia and Italian Somaliland.

They failed to agree on a line of demarcation, but they reached understanding establishing "which" Somali clans in the interior came under which "sphere."

Image
  1. Tribes facing the Coast
    1. Marehan and Majerten between Shabelle River and British Somaliland
    2. Baadicadde on the Shabelle River
    3. Rahanweyn below the Shabelle River
  2. Tribes facing the Ogaden
    • All Ogaadeen principally
    • All Degoodiye principally
    • All Darod, Hawiye, and Dir not within Marehan/Majerten line or Baadicadde line or Rahanweyn line
Understand what this means. The disagreement on the boundary line would henceforth be waged on the back of Somali clans who now represented the boundary!

So when people look at the map today and say "Marehan is at the border"
  • Marehan is not AT the border (and neither is Rahanwayn AT the border)
  • The Border is "AT MAREHAN" (and AT RAHANWEYN below the Shabelle).

This had drastic consequences primarily for clans in Italian Sphere since the "Ogaden" is grazing and it also had drastic consequences for some groups in Ethiopian sphere (Bah Geri had to move back from Beled Weyne Areas and Degoodiye from Daua River);

But the most disastrous consequence was for Marehan---who for the 5th generation now running---were completely pushed out "POLITICALLY" from their original homeland from Warder to the Shabelle River, including the overwhelming majority of Shilabo/Shilave "territory"----

----and to this day are the single largest disenfranchised Somali clan in Ethiopia, still settling an area the would be the 3rd biggest district in Somali region with historically 0, absolutely 0 representation in administration.

To go back to Marehan Farese, her Marehan inhabitants were harried, the settlement was destroyed, and it was effectively "erased" from situated referencing.

That's why the last references to Marehan Farese are from that period surrounding 1908.

Marehan, the human people, were made the "boundary" and any existence of a "Marehan Farese" outside Warder then signified the "threat" of Italian claim to Warder.

And did Marehan partake in the convention that made them a "border?" Did they choose to be implicated in imperialism? Did they concur with the induction into a sphere? Did they have any say, whatsoever, about the intrusion into their existence and livelihood?

When you hear an "Ogaden" today egregiously claim Marehan land and settlements in which they are not even 'sharing' with Marehan like Fadhigaraadle, Laasacaanood, Ceel Baxay, Cilaanle, Garasle, Ceel Dibir, etc, understand exactly that the nasty, odious, contemptible sense of hubris has origins in that original sin.

Not derailing the topic, I was watching Haile Salase documentary the other day, interesting the history of Ethiopia and the Emperors they had, I noticed the search Ethiopia for sea port is not something new and that Haile Salase was visiting France and England to pressure them giving Ethiopia sea port which they rejected at the end he took Eritrea

Sh Abdi Hersy, with Cagjar as fan & listener, says "Marehan has faced EXTRAORDINARY injustice in Somali Region from OG."

Sh Abdi Hersy disclaims that "he only used Muuse Gumcadle informants for this broadcast."

He says he did that after becoming so shocked by the veracity and corroboration of the injustice against Marehan from the perspective of BOTH sides that he then chose to only use the Ogaden informants for the broadcast as a "reinforcement" of the strength, level, and bredth of injustice faced by Marehan in his own historical land in Somali Region.

Now imagine the full extent of injustice if the Sheikh included the Marehan perspective.

Everything that the Ogaden has said about the Amxaar the Ogaden has been to the Marehan in his own historical land.

Probably worse since the Amxaar doesn't differentiate Ogaden from other Somalis.

⌃ everything the qowsar Liyu police did, the SSDF was worse to Marehan. The first target of Liyu police are their qowsar cousins rebelling against the regime. They occasionally drunk shoot at Isakh or Marehan. The SSDF waged waged a targetted campaign
