Was Afweeyne responsible of Galool and dhuusa's athiesm?
Those who knew Mohamed Siad Barre say that he was an idealist Marxist who has never worshipped Allah SWT and neither promoted the study of Islam by Somalis. Infact, he encouraged marxism as sciences and sorrounded himself with Marxists, and most non-practicing Somali Muslims, even the few Somali athiests rave abouthim and consider him as the "father of athiesm" in Somalia. We read Galool refer to that point several times. Did he really seal the fate of Somali athiests likeGalool and dhuuse dheere? Discuss?

no i doubt poor old siyad knew enough about what he was talkin about.
to him the soviet union was amilking cow and if you wanted milk or in tis case money and weapons you had to sing thier tune.
Siyad was more sentimentaly attached to his old italian masters, and would have loved to be a capitalist lapdog, but the Americans were having an affair with the Ethiopians so he had no choice .
walahi i wouldnt be surprised if he never heard of Das kapital

To understand where Somali politics are today, you have to take a closer look at the major warlords in Somalia, and they are indicative of humans who lost their conscious, principles, humanity and their religion. Nearly all of them worked closely in areas of responsibility with the Afweeyne regime, what did they learn from him? I don't think a conscientious Muslim leader will hire apartheid hate fuelled South African pilots to bomb, decimate, destroy and level up cities including the whole population. He may not be a Marxist intellectual and not know what the Communist Manifesto was, but indeed he downplayed Islamic morals and values and discouraged it, while promoting ideas that was alien to the Somalis. He is the goose that laid to Galool, dhuuse dheere's athiesm and gave us the warlords.
Was he a natural born athiest?

I don't kno what one earns from broadcasting the faults of a man who is six feet downunder! shouldn't you worry about your own sins. do you know your fate adigu or where you will end up??
"
Did he really seal the fate of Somali athiests likeGalool and dhuuse dheere?"
how can one one who couldn't prevent death from taking him seal the fate of others??
law26, you are pathetic wallahi!

I respect differences of opinions, but I will like you to spell it out for me. Afterall this is a discussion board, and let us discuss our differences of opinions. Afweeyne never cared about Islam, infact the opposite happened under his leadership. That is where athiests got the pat on their backs.
Coolman
Get out of the tribal box. He was a Somali leader who caused so much fitnah in our homeland, and we can see where it got us as Somalis, warlords and more warlords. Sorry, I forgot that you were not Somali, but an ONLF "mujaahid". Is it Ogadenia or Somali galbeed?
You chase and insult Shia's who never harmed and wronged you in any way, and defend an athiest anti-Islam murderer like Afweeyne? Thatis his legacy.
That is pathetic.

Siyad Barre is not and was never responsibel for peoples personal choices. Prostitution, Atheism, and corruption existed way before Siyad Barre came to power. It was the government of Shermake with its appetite for foreign ideology, money, and women who brought such practices to somalia.
As for Communism, well in 1967 Shermarke and his Cabinet entourage went to Moscow to order the first batch of assitance, so who broug communism to Somalia? besides Siyad Barre and the Revolutionary Council should be thanked for writing the Somali language, for developing Somalia's economy, for modernizing industry, for buidling the massive highways that connected Mogadishu, Kismayo, Baidoa, Bosasso, and Hairgesa.
Siyad Barre ceased to rule Somalia as of 1986 after the tragic car accident. So for the civil war you should blame his underlings who ruin the economy, who brought back tribalism and classism, and who plundered the treasury. Lets not be biased.

The Law, First and fore most, Why are you insulting a dead man ? And secondly he can't be accountable for those who have converted to a religious which in my opinion doesn't exist but only a figment of their imagination, Thirdly many here might agree and disagree but one thing is for certain he truly was a muslim, although the acts he has committed might not be acceptable.

Afweeyne was no common or average kind of Somali guy, but he was our leader and left us a legacy, indeed a dark one, and that is what the discussion is all about. No more, no less. We can see his fingerprints all over the anarchy in Somalia. He is not a saint.
Baller
We all know that no one is responsible for anyone else's sins, but what was Afweeyne's contribution to the deterioration of Islam in Somalia under his leadership?
You raised an interesting part of Somali politics (Shermarke era) that I have very little knowledge of, but regretably, you used it as a brush just to wipe it under their carpet, so ou can spin Afweeyne favourably. Can you eleborate on it. Tell us more.
I'm not arguing about the positive stuff Afweeyne has done for Somalia, indeed he has done many, but what was his contribution to silencing the voice of Islam under his dictatorship and promoting the voice of vice? He openly murdered and executed the most notable Somali Muslim Scholars, whose only crime was to disagree with his policies that they deemed to be against Islam. The marxists rejoiced that day as been told here many times by Galool, a student and admirer of Afweeyne.

Firstly addressing a deceased by 'Afweyne' is disrespectful and ceeb. I dont know if you or your family has something personal against Siyad Barre, maybe some property was confiscated, i dont know and dont want to speculate.
We all know that Siyad Barre was not a saint but he was not pure evil either. Yes Siyad Barre is partly responsible for not enforcing our Islamic codes or not looking after the well-being of Somalias religous class. But that does not mean that his was responsible for those people who converted to other religions. Infact, the blame lies squarely on the former Shermarke regime and his pro-european policy. To be honest, he was the darling of buckingham palace and a personal favorite of the West. His visit to Washington D.C. in the early sixties, in which he was welcomed by the Former President Kennedy bears witness. No one knows for sure how much aid he took from the West, and little if any reached the coffers of the Somali Ministry of Treasury.
Therefore, Somali's little religious decay was in full swing before Siyad Barre came to power. Shermarke and Igal initiated it and the process culminated in those maaskin religous demoonstrates being sentenced to death. If Siyad Barre was responsible for anything on the religous front it was being disinterested in the realm of religion, and for believing that the Communist ideology propaganda (again introduced by Shermarke and Igal) was a way out of underdevelopment and the Third World category.
Putting religion on the back burner was iniated by Shermarke and Igal and Siyad Barre naturally paid attention to pressing issue of underdevelopment and the dismal state of social stratification that existed at the time.

ppl keep trying to blame Siad Barre even though he is gone 15 yrs + b/c they dont wanna live up to the reality that they were not better than siad barre. overthrowing him to try to get rid of him and then blaming him for somalia/somalis after 15 yrs of him being out is ppl who dont wanna take accountability for their own actions and are clinging on to something to be a scapegoat
about the question it has more to do with an inferiority complex these ppl have. They are first gen refugees and are so "impressed" by Western society they are trying their best to appear educated as soon as possible and they associate the East's current backwardness with something wrong with them. I'm sure there were Europeans in the Dark Ages who went to Islamic Spain and were so "impressed' they began to hate themselves. They only see "here and now" and don't see events in the context of history oscillating btwn different civilizations
siad barre advocating socialism is no different than these warlords saying they are fighting against terrorism and is not different than S-land trying to convince the West they are democratic and even putting a few women in MP positions to show the world they are "progressive"
