SAYID MOHAMED ADBULLE HASSAN THE FATHER OF OUR NATION

Post by fagash_killer »

The man who has taken part in every possible type and nature of struggle at his time merely to liberate his people. Sacrificed his entire life to protect his people, land, identity, and religion. He has not only witnessed all kind of human right abuses but also been a victim of every distress and negative impacts of colonial implication against his people. Eventually, taking arms and not sparing any resources against all oppressors of our people. This man is the father of the Somali nation. He is also the first man to advance the pan-Somali or Greater Somalia effort against all colonial occupation

AN OPEN LETTER BY SAYID MOHAMED ABDULLE HASSAN TO THE BRITISH PEOPLE, JUNE 1904

I wish to rule my own country and protect my own religion.
If you will, send me a letter saying whether there is to be peace or war.
I intend to go from Burao to Berbera I warn you of this - I wish to fight with you.
I like war, but you do not. God willing, I will take many rifles from you, but you will get no rifles or ammunition from me. I have no forts, no houses, no country.
I have no cultivated fields, no silver, no gold for you to take. I have nothing.
If the country were cultivated or contained houses or property, it would be worth your while to fight. The country is all jungle, and that is of no use to you.
If you want wood and stone, you can get them in plenty. There are also many ant-heaps. The sun is very hot. All you can get from me is war - nothing else.
I have met your men in battle, and have killed them. We are greatly pleased at this. Our men who have fallen in battle have won paradise. God fights for us.
We kill, and you kill. We fight by God's order. That is the truth. We ask for God's blessing. God is with me when I write this. If you wish for war, I am happy;
and, if you wish for peace, I am content also. But if you wish for peace,
go Solvay from my country back to your own.
If you wish for war, stay where you are. Hearken to my words.
I wish to exchange a machine gun for ammunition. If you do not want it, I will sell it to some one else. bend me a letter saying whether you desire war or peace."

somehow i agree with you syl are also the father of our nation since the we had the real freedom but it began on sayid if it wasnt for him struggle we could be enslaved like the afro americans imagine that we had all british name ore we were today all gaalo so it began on sayid after his death the brittish ruled us till the 60ste and they left us and yes the syl could be seen than than as the father of our nation so somehow i disagree and agree

Mr. qudhace aka the Tree-Lover

Come-on know dont act all slim-shady on us, just because the Gurtie (weird word to me) from hargeisa and their proposal of All-Somali Nation under the square-faced brits was rejected doesn't mean that The Sayid wasn't the father of the Somali People. He was and thanks to him we can claim that we have fought the most powerfull force on earth at the time (not taking the Ottomans into account). The pour souls had to use helicopters to attack the dug-in positions of The Sayid, with teenage boys from hargeisa and burco being used as canoon fodders.

gacalisa most somalis who discredit the Sayyid mostly do so cuz their qabiil fall out in favor with Darwish movement. I hope you are not discrediting his efforts to fight the invaders just cuz yoy feel your qabiil was victimized by his forces. The sayyid had noble idea of uniting all somali speaking tribes of the horn. Some choose to join him, others decided otherwise. In all conflicts, decisions carry consenquences. In a war for survival and independence, those who didn't join the darwish movement were seen as the freinds of the enemy. This is how ppl were judged on depending on allegiance. The sayyid certainly did lot of mistakes by killing and antoganozing the very people who he was trying to free. Perhaps, there are times who should have communicate to his ppl not through the sword, but through his feelings. The man yearned and fought for free and independent united Somalia. It is for this many somalis admire for.
