"Legend also says that the myrrh that Balthasar, the Ethiopian King, one of The Magi, brought to baby Jesus was probably imported from the Golis Range Mountains of Somaliland where myrrh still grows and is exported to neighboring Ethiopia and abroad. "

Bashir goth made a common mistake.
Bacalthashar came from Kush.
which is really Northern Sudan.
Nothing to do with Ethiopia or Punt.
Ethiopia has always been Northern Sudan..
Until Haile Sellasie Stole the Name for his country.
Abysinnia bieng Named Ethiopia is quite recent from the 1930's.
From the begening of Recorded History till Haille sellasies novel name theft, Ethiopia has always been Northern Sudan.

The name Ethiopia is very old and predates Greek entry into the red sea.
The first greeks to see black people were those visiting egypt.
as they went up the nile river into the different states of Kush especially Meroe in Northern Sudan they gave the land Ethiopia.
If you read your Homer you will notice that in the Oddesy there was mention of an Ethiopian prince/warrior. memnon,
and a an entire book a sequal to the iliad called aethiopis about ethiopian mercenaries who fought for Troy.

Gurey,
I'm aware Homer mentioned Ethiopians in the Iliad and the odyssey but remember those poems are not reputable historical documents. Sure Homer gave good 'enough' details in the Iliad for us to find where Troy is located today but Homer had a nack of telling fanciful tales... about cities with implausable construction (walls too tall to be physically possible etc) and such alike.
Also the greeks, I think, called ethiopians any dark-hued or brown skinned ppl.
The traveller I'm talking about went to Ethiopia via the red sea and he describes the vegetation, animals, ppl which fit the modern day norther ethiopia/southern sudan. I read it long time ago so don't remember the book or the historian. But I have strong hunch it was Herodotus.
