MASJID MONEY
Every somali shop I go to and all the chitty, filthy, smelly, TB ridden harbouring places are called Towfiq or Badr or Xamdis - have a got a collection box: it is always for a Masjid. I know they do their other little `charity' more discreetly in the back of the shop that is where the real money exchanges hands, but the symbolism is still there: this is what we care about.
Usually these masjids are in their immediate neighborhoods although i have seen colections for masjids in unknown godforsaken hamlets back home too.
More tellingly almost every public construction happening in somalia funded by somalis is a masjid.
This is in a country where children die slowly for lack of water, where mothers bleed to death giving birth because wards have run of out of Vitamin K. This is a country where people drink urine to survive.
Is there something wrong with this picture?

Gee Galol, aren't you ever the caring type. So have you personally set up any philanthropic organizations that would help these poor innocent victims? Or do you just point the finger hoping to scores few petty points against wadads collecting money for masjids? my guess is you are too inactive in that regard. Talk to me when you’ve established such charitable means and I’ll be happy to dig deep into my pocket, even if you do it under your atheist/agnostic banner, till then, shut the fock up!
As for raising money for masjids, I do my part. Wherever I live, I wanna see a masjid that I can go to and be brought to when I exit this world and any means that would ensure the establishment of such sanctuary, I am all for it and be happy to donate my efforts and money.

It will be immodest of me to advertise but I do my bit. The most irritating thing is there is this internet Somali shop owned by Mijertein and other Bari/Mudug daarods guys. But they are also Wadaads, you know the type that advertise their Wadaadness as if to say we are not somalis at all, we are now Allah's boys, we play for his team.
I went there to give what I could during Hafun Tsunami which somehow had disproportionately bad impact on me because even more than the drought and war and the stravation is brought home the fact of our misery. And guess what there is not a colection at all. But there is a collection and banners all over the place for Islamic Relief, a Pakistani-run charity that goves most of its money to Chechens and Palestinians.
I did not wish to ask them because I thought i might say something.
But can I ask you something Zulaika : You do know God will accept your prayers anywhere dont you? Or Perhaps you believe you will get more ajar if you pray him in a big building dedicated to him?

Quit patronizing me waryaa, I know Allah will accept my prayers anywhere. Masjids are places designated for worship, I can turn a tiny cubical in my house into such if need be the case, however what I’m alluding to here is not of structural proportions, but is rather from spiritually beneficial point of view and where I can best reap the most in that regard. It has less to do with the lack there of on God’s part to reach me and accept my prayers and more to do with me, striving to learn, grow, and enrich my life with the diin. “falyatanaa fasilmutanaa fisiin†ku tartama diinta, soo I’m just doing my part in the race dee.
And just as I know that going to the library increases my chances of acing that mid-term exam, I also know going to the masjid will avail me with better chances of developing stronger bond with the rope of Allah than say "anywhere else", not to mention all the communal services that a masjid offers like Quraan saar for when I go kuu-kuu and don’t wanna throw my hard earned pennies at Phyzer
..Yes I go to my local wadaad for therapy
Marka if you were ill equipped to comprehend the previously said as such, I apologize dee. Huuno, hada kadib waan kuu tartiibinayaa

Galol,
if your attention is to attack the charity which is collected for Masjids, I would say you really need to come out the closet as usual. Moreover, there are millions of us who disburse their money on other things that have no benefit to the community whatsoever, such as building theaters, cinemas, importing Qaad from neighboring countries and so on. I mean the whole society is corrupted, there is no one to blame particularly. So, I think I would have concurred with you if you would have started the game from those things rather than talking about the mosques, which are barely built for worshiping Allah (swt) no matter which situation we undergo.

I am highly impressed you grasp the concept of patronage and recognise when an attempt is being to practise it on your young self.
Alas your reasoning and train of thought needs further improvement but you are forgiven you are still a growing lass and all will come in time.
Kidding Zulaika, sheath that sakiin for a second.
My arabic is a little rusty so I did not quite get the clear meaning of your transliteration but if teh gist of it was "compete to do good in religion" then thge masjid builders are missing teh point: Surely it is more Islamic, more holy, more godly and will please allah more if you spend your money and effort on alleviating huiman suffering rather than built yet another masjid?
Which of those acts building a Mosque or feeding a hungry mother and child in somalia will plaese Alalh more?
Wise man
Relax Wadaad I am not attacking Wahabbism, I am just calling Wahab a camelfocking Saudi faggot who abused little children and all the local gaots were his hareem. Is that insulting Isalm?
Lets start a thread on this. Dont remove it Wise-man be fair.

The Theatre my friend is not unbeneficial. Cinema and the theatre are an invaluable sources of entertainment to many a people. There's nothing more gratifying and intellectually stimulating (at least form my perspective) than going to watch a well performed theatre production. So is the case with cinema. To say that these arts are of no use to society is ludicrous.
Another thing worth noting is that Muslim charities are only concerned with the plight of other Muslims and seem not to be moved by the suffering of non-Muslims. Following the Tsunami, non-Muslim charities and lay non-Muslims in an out pour of compassion helped donate millions of pounds and dollars to Indonesia where the Tsunami worst hit.
You won't see much of the same display of compassion from collective Muslims however with regards to the suffering of non-Muslim communities that are faced with similar catastrophes.

Galol,
I have never discussed any topic about Mohamed Bin-Abdul-Wahabi, and there is nothing wrong if we discuss it as an adult, but, to be honest with you, I am not here to discuss anything about him whatsoever. It just does not make sense to me. Let him be whatever he was, and no matter what he did, it is my policy to remove any topic that insults Muslim scholars regardless of who wrote it.

No sir, your duty and obligation is to uphold freedom of speech irrespective of whether or not you agree with the point being expressed - a policy which you've violated countless times.
Get a grip sir! Mr. Abdul Wahab is not above criticism, and people ought not be silenced. I along with many other forumers have been called faggots and other objectionable names in the past, and you've taken no action before, so I don't see why Mr. Wahab should be treated any differently.
You're an absolute disgrace!

Is it a new policy? You never delete when the foking wahabis insult non salafi aka wahabi Muslim scholars. We have seen many posts to that end. Why not come out from the cold and tell the forumers that you are a wahabi too.
Fok this place, it is a playing ground for old kaafirs like galool and wahabi moderators.
